I honestly have no idea how find this type of information out, but when they offer auditions for shows or movies, audition! If you land a role, an agent will come to you. You don't need one yet if you've never been in something big before. On High School Musical, the girl that played Martha got an agent. And she didn't have a very big part in the movie.

It's not impossible to act without an agent. Ashley Tisdale was recognized at three years old and that's when she got an agent. You can also land roles in plays to practice and learn how to act as different characters. After you gather experience and really begin to get into the acting world, you'll notice when roles are avaliable and when an agent recognizes you, they'll come to you.

You can act, but in non-union productions.

Take acting classes, the actors in your class are your best resources for information on agents, showcases, and anything related to acting.

You will get more benefit from classes and fellow actors than from Yahoo! We don't live in your city and can't give you the information you need.
You can act! ONLY in non-union productions.
Perform in non-union productions so Agents can that you are working.
If they like you them may call you for an appointment.
They get a commisison (usually 10% in NYC,) from the money you make from performing.
If you enroll in acting classes you will get answers to your questions that are specific to where you live.

agents represent you. When you have no work, you can represent yourself. Its when you ecome a bigshot, you want to hire an agent. Right now, you dont need one.
