Last year when I bought my laptop, I tried to install/setup a wireless router and couldnt get it to work. I bought 3 different routers, went through setup, and when I unplugged the router (after setup) it failed everytime. I finally just gave up and returned them all. But I really do want it!

Can you help me? I am hoping you know a VERY simple wireless router to both setup and run? Lilterally, if there is a "plug and surf" version, thats what I need.

Again, Dell laptop 1705 and Bell South Fast access DSL.
Right now I have an ethernet cable running from laptop to box, phone line from box to wall, plus AC power.
Thanks.

Well the hookup is rather simple, the configuration shouldn't be too hard either.

You currently have this
phoneline -----> Modem ------> Computer

With a router is it
phoneline -----> Modem -----> ROUTER-----> computer

Once the router is connected in this manner THEN run the setup CD that comes with them and you should be good to go.. If you unplugged it after you set it up of course it will fail it has to stay plugged in to work..
When you setup for DSL you will need to put your login username and password (which you setup on the computer) to install in the routers information.

Once it is all working on a wired connection, then enable the wireless and connect wirelessly. Dont try to setup the router from a wireless connection unless you really know what you are doing.

Try Dlink or Linksys they both are easy to setup.

Worst case ask for someone to come help you. Most resellers will have installation service.

You should also have a filter, these would have been supplied by Bell South, usually small white box (about the size of a pack of cigarettes).this plugs in-between the wall jack and the modem with two jacks on it one for a phone and one for the modem
Usually wireless routers are shipped with the wireless turned off.
I have a Netgear wireless router very little problems, 2 in 2 yrs, and these were solved by unplugging the router waiting a couple of min and plugging back in.
Netgear also helped over a toll free number with the setup

Hope this helps

I'll make it very simple:

1. You'll need a Rj-11 cable to connect your phone jack (or from the phoneline filter) to the DSL modem.
2. You'll need a Ethernet RJ-45 cable to connect the modem to the router.
3. Now power the modem and the router.
4. For the first time using, you'll need one more Ethernet Cable Rj-45 to connect from 1 of any port on the back of the router to the laptop. You use the CD that comes with the router to set up the WEP or WPA key, channels, ect. If you don't get the software or the driver, go to the router's website to get the software or driver for the router.

When you've done, you have finnaly connected to network wirelessly. Good Luck,

Well First of all if you are trying to use a wireless connection, make sure you have a wireless card in your laptop. If you are trying to do a hardwire connection, you need to make sure that you have the Cat3 cable (the yellow cord) Hooked up to from your laptop to your router, And then your phone cable (the gray one) hooked up from your router to the wall. If you are using a hardwire your best bet is to get a wired modem than a wireless router. To hook up you w.less router just put in the cd and follow the instructions. I bought a router from at&t and have it hardwired it works fine.

in case you have a static IP handle including your DSL that's what your cyber web interface in the router gets. There are some connection varieties, try the direct connection. so some distance as your LAN is in contact, the router would desire to be a DHCP server which provides out a selection op IP addresses, so as that each physique your laptops/computers can get that stuff from the router. no longer something static on your LAN.
