It was REALLY hot this morning. Do you think God would have cared if I wore a tank top and shorts to church?

I think the question should be how do you feel about going into the presence of God with other believers in a tank top and shorts to worship and praise your Creator.

I don't think God minds but the people attending may mind. They probably grew up with someone telling them it is not proper attire. But if it's hot and the shorts are not revealing and the tank is not exposing much cleavage than there should be no problem.

different religions have different dress codes- some places of worship people don't care if you show up in pyjamas with neon pink hair, other places will be scandalized if you show your ankles.
for you it really depends on what the standards of dress are.
as for the big man in the sky himself, i personally think an all-powerful deity in charge of the entire universe and everything in it has more to worry about than what you wear to church. it's nice to be respectful in holy places and all, but i think since your intentions are good (you want to be comfortable, not flaunt your body per se) it's not a big deal.
if you're okay with it and won't be excommunicated or whatever, that's good enough for me. i guess it's between you and god, right?

He doesn't care as long as you go with respect and love in your heart. Wearing very casual clothes is not a sign of respect. You outfit may not have been trashy but you may need to examine the reasons that you go to church for.

I think God would be glad that you choosed to go church, he is not judgemental like most humans in and out of church. In the bible it says come as you are.

I think God would be happy to see you there. I think a tank and skirt would be a little more appropriate though. But he really doesn't care. I think people dress up to go there because it's important to them.
