Hi there,

I used to be a gymnast and dancer and also did a little trampolining when I was younger but I've been lazy the past few years and have drifted away from those kinds of activities. The college I will be attending in September has a cheer team and I'm pondering trying out for it in order to get back into the dancing thing but with a fun twist.

I have never cheered before, however and I know many of the others trying out will have been cheering for years and was wondering if anyone can tell me what will be expected as far as tumbling routines and such goes.

Essentially, what is the bare minimum that I need to make the squad? I'd like to get back into shape and brush up on everything first, so knowing what's expected would be a great help.

Thanks!

Not all colleges have cheer teams that are of the caliber of the ones you see on TV. So look into what the requirements are of that college. Also, it is possible they already tried out in the spring if there is a football cheer squad. That's another thing you'll need to find out.

For exercises, keep up your flexibility with stretching. Make sure you have good cheer jumps: http://www.geocities.com/aescougarcheer/basics.htm#jumps And don't forget to make sure you can snap your motions. As a dancer and gymnast you are probably more used to fluid, graceful movements.

Good luck!

it depends on what school your going try check there web site and seeing if they have anything on tryouts ... if it a big cheer leading school u will prbly need a standing tuck and a round off hand spring full or close to something like that for a smaller school maybe a back handspring or maybe not even that. dance back round is good! You need to work on motions, jump, and maybe chanting. Check the Internet for different type of motion and jumps and how to do them. HAVE FUN AND SMILE!! if they see potential they might put you on the team!

hmm...peppiness i guess. eww, how much i h8 ppl who r soo friggin peppy, perky, fake. Friggin barbie dolls. But i dunno, i only cheered when i wus in the 3rd or 4th grade & now i am a junior. But at one point i did think about trying out as a sophmore jus to b a little more popular, but i quickly realized it ain't for me and that i would've been the only punk/emo-ish chik on the team....most of the cheerleaders didn't consider helping me or talking to me except one and she was alright but yeh, keep asking 'til u find out.
