well if you make the father a man whom is distance to his son. and always pushing him , have the father break down crying and giving his son postive reinforcement. it would be more powerful if they lose because of the son, something the readier would not expect.

I'm tired of the cliche's you know? The drive to win the game, the slow motion throw as the clock winds down, the catch, the fans charging the field. the hug from the girlfriend, the pat on the shoulder from the dad/mentor/coach who always gave our star a hard time, Sports movies all seem to follow this formula.
Personally I think the best end to a sports movie is Rocky 1, you know why? Because it didn't matter to him in the end if he won the fight. Rocky just wanted to go the distance against the best, because he knew that if he could take everything that the greatest had to dish out, then there was nothing in life that this slow beaten down "Club fighter could not do."
Now To answer your question about High school foot ball I think that it's important to send a message that it's just a game and nothing more. It's not worth drugging up with roids, or killing yourself over. Because here's an important question what happens to the team after that Cliche filled ending? What happens when the stadium clears? Life is what happens, plain and simple. that's why we have alot of these glory day quarterbacks bagging grocery's at Vons reminiscing about the good old days. a great ending would be a Rocky ending, a team coming together and giving it their all and walking away feeling good about themselves regardless of what it says on score board.

Kind like how the movie friday night lights ends, the team tragically and heartbreakingly lossesthe last game, but they all learn a life lesson and go on with their lives and one characters life is horribly altered and another rises to fame and a great career would come along with it

you go forward through the rest of the year in pictures, with a narrator saying what happened (prom, graduation, etc) and the ending stories (so and so ended up marrying so and so after graduation, then divorced 3 months later when they went to college, or something like that)

They should LOSE! Like, 3 members are trying to catch the football at the last minute of overtime, and fail miserably. But, you have to make one of the characters really sympathetic. Like, he has cancer. OH! and AIDS! So that way, when they lose, the whole crowd cheers anyways cause the kid with Cancer aids tried is best!

Did I tell you that Cancer Aids boy has only one leg?
