There's great shopping and restaurants on the Riverwalk, the Alamo is a must see, Seaworld if you get the chance.

You don't say whether you have a car available to you or not so I must assume that your transportation is some what limited. If I was at the River walk I would certainly enjoy the wonderful places to go and see with in a short distance of the River Walk. San Antonio is a city of romance and if you are here on that kind of a holiday, I will remind you that we do have horse drawn carriages and they will take you on a tour around the city, we also have our river cruises, you an arrange to have dinner while going down the river, also very romantic. The Alamo, Texas culture center, tower of the Americas, Many theaters, Ripley's, Museums, botanical garden, are all relatively close. There are other ways to get around the down town that are also romantic. One of those is the trolleys. We are a very European city and have a wonderful Spanish flavor to our atmosphere

Consider taking a riverboat trip-it will help you get an overview of the riverwalk--it would be easy to spend most of your visit along the river walk.
Consider visiting the Alamo.
Also, there is SeaWorld(discount tickets can be purchased on line), there are other theme parks if you are into that type of entertainment(HemisFair Urban Park, Six Flags, Fiesta Texas, Splashtown,Malibu Castle), there are numerous restaurants (and some that are also a museum, Buckhorn Saloon & Museum,Guenther House), there are numerous old missions along the Mission Trail(,San Fernando De Bexar Cathedral, Concepcion Church, Mission Concepcion,St. Mark's Episcopal Church,Mission San Jose,Mission San Juan, and others).
Most hotels there have sightseeing brochures and some even offer discount tickets through the hotel.

Hope you have a great time.

Just walk around and stop at all the historical markers. Bring a camera and take loads of pictures of unusual things and people. Go into the St. Anthony's, the chandeliers are beautiful. You can pretend your a model and have a friend take a vertical shot of you under a chandelier near a big window. Be creative when you go. There is a Micky D's downtown and it's off the riverwalk, so you don't have to spend a load of money and I'd go eat a sandwich at Shiloh's right off the riverwalk. Go to the Newspaper and ask if you can get a tour. Like I said, be creative. Talk to the horses that pull around the tourists and stay in the tourist area and pick up a load of brochures to cut out and paste in a scrapbook later. Don't forget to go to Starbucks on the river for a latte and say something random while you walk on to the river with all the tourists like, "NO, I will not do cocaine with you." I love to freak tourists out. Have fun.

For Shopping:
Rivercenter Mall, it's right on the riverwalk
La Cantera, on I-10 and 1604-it's a beautiful mall
The Forum, on I-35 @ N 1604 E

Dining: (Best Restaurants)
Mamacitas, on I-10 W and Medical
Picante Grill, on Broadway across from the Whittie
LaFocaccia, on S. Alamo

Visit:
Riverwalk, Downtown
Sea World, WNW San Antonio
Six Flags Fiesta Texas, I-10 & LaCantera Pkwy
San Antonio Museum of Art, Downtown
Schlitterbahn in New Braunfels, TX
McNay Museum, N. New Braunfels @ The Austin Hwy

In my opinion, the Alamo is boring. I know a lot of people visit, maybe you'll like it, maybe not.
The Missions/Mission Trails are boring, and in a bad part of town. Don't even go south of downtown, it's dangerous, too many gangs, and low life people.

If you explore the city stay away from:
-East Side
-West Side
-South Side
-South West/East Sides
-WNW Sides, anywhere near 410 Callahagn Rd on west is very ugly

If you're traveling down Loop 410 exit IH-10 West to get to the beautiful LaCantera mall.

Visit these sides of town:
-North West Side
-North Central
-North East

If you are a history buff you will LOVE San Antonio. The missions are an awesome look back into the history of San Antonio and old Texas. And the Alamo, on my gosh! History just oozes from the walls!

I Love San Antonio!!!!!!!! Ok you need to devote a whole day to the river walk. It is fun, beautiful, and makes you feel as if your in a New Orleans enviroment. Seaworld is fun if you have kids, its not that big though. The ripleys believe it or not and wax museum are way cool. Just make sure to go to the river walk!

Cancel your reservations and cash in your ticket! San Antonio is terrible, I stayed there for 3 days to visit UTSA and I didnt see sun light at all the whole trip. It was also extremely boring. There were also certain times I thought the city was abandoned because I walked blocks without seeing anyone on the street.

All San Antonio has to offer is food(the high point), crack heads around downtown and the Alamo.

OK fine and they have the Spurs too.

Alamo is boring...been there 3x in 8 yrs...
Missions are boring...my grandma lives across the street from one...
Great shopping at Rivercenter Mall...it's huge...
Fiesta Texas is a must...woo hoo it's great!
Seaworld is cool, but not great...it's mostly shows...
Go to the outdoor flea market on the Southside...cool stuff for low prices... : )
Go on a riverboat tour once, just for the heck of it...
We have GREAT mexican food, so I'd better not catch you at a Taco Bell or Taco Cabana...
Some sides of town at night do have gang activity and aren't so great(East, West, South), but if you don't mess with them they generally won't mess with you.
Your best bet is Fiesta Texas...which happens to be accross from La Cantera (another Mall)...I live on the North East side...
anyone who says San Antonio is boring just wasn't trying to have fun...

Cheers!
