My wife has abandoned me and our 3 little kids this weekend to be with a younger man out of town, and she is gonna leave me as of tomorrow and also leaving our kids and all. I work full time and have a place for my kids to go, but what do I need to do for help? Can I get assistance anywhere until she pays me cause she is also unemployed. Please tell me what I need to do, and be serious about it, cause this is 13 years here, and my 3 kids are ages 8 and under........

I am in the same boat. brother! I am still fighting DHS trying to get medical coverage & food assistance. I am here to tell you, things will be tough, but you will make it! I still recieve no child support after 11 months, and if that were me, I'd be in jail! Just hang in there, and don't be afraid to rely on friends and family. I had to swallow my pride when I realized it takes a villaige to raise a child, much less three! ( Mine are 6,7,&8) First and most important thing to do is get your custody ON PAPER!!! Mine has come back now and decided to play mommy, with her new druggy boyfriend!!

If she is unemployed, you probably won't get a dime for a very long time. For the summer you need a full time babysitter. And good daycares are hard to find. Start looking immediately for fall for the youngest ones. Try church-operated first, as they offer loving care at a cheaper price as they are subsidized by the church. Also, get a lawyer at once. Otherwise, the wife may be back to snatch the kids and run off again when she gets settled. File for custody before she can do that so that you are legally their sole guardian. If you can afford it, get some help with housecleaning once a week (hire a teenager this summer?). You can handle most things, but laundry and kids take up a lot of time, so you could use help with the cleaning, I think. I don't think you can get any financial assistance for your own children, but the lawyer would know how to force your wife to work and pay you child support. You need a lawyer. If you can't afford one, try Legal Aid. And look in the phone book for the agency that can help you get child support payments.

First, file for child support! Even if she isn't working, she has his income to support herself so she can pay! Then file for physical custody (at the same time) of the kids. You should be able to get some help with taking care of them ( depending on your income). Next, Divorce. Let her worry about herself.
Listen, you're going to go through hard times and hard feelings (hurt feelings, and not wanting to let her go), it works both ways for men and women. But do what you have to do to take care of the kids. You aren't going to have time to worry about hurting her feelings in this. You are going to need to think about taking care of your children not the women that left.
Stay strong, higher a lawyer , and don't bash her in front of the kids (they won't forgive you for it).

Check your states website for childcare assistance. It should give details on who to contact and in some cases they will list the amount in which you must make less than to qualify for benefits...whether it be child care, wic or other.

if I were you, I'd go see a lawyer pronto. You need to protect those kiddos from a selfish and irresponsible parent.

I don't know about where to go for help other than the courts & the lawyer would be able to direct you better than I could.

Unemployed or not you need to make sure first and foremost your children are cared for. Be sure to file for child support when YOU file your separation/divorce.

You can't collect if she's not working. Talk to your lawyer IMMEDIATELY.
