Yup...maybe not so much different 'culture,' but different kind of personality.

I have noticed that coastal places tend to have more in common all around the country, but inland areas nowhere near the oceans, gulfs, and lakes are more similar.
I think the Northeast is very straightforward. You know if someone likes you and if they don't, they leave you alone. They think all they do is very important and it's very important what you DO.
The southeast coast is much more relaxed, less competitive until you get down near Miami, then it's like NY/NJ/LI.
The west coast seems very earthy and healthy and open minded and not as hard-driving as the east, wiht the exception of LA, which is like a cross between NY, Miami, SanFran, Tijuana, and is competitive, but I found LA a bit more superficial and maybe more
fabulous, but less real than NY. LA is more progressive than Miami, but both have a very stylish and modern crowd and a beach culture as well. LA is more suburban than SF, and more conservative.
About the Gulf coast from Florida Panhandle to South Texas, proximity to the salt air from the sea gives people a more open outlook than inland, or landlocked places.

Definitely, West Coast more laid back, East Coast, more uptight.
