Do you think that Canberra seems a bit too...."quiet" to be the capital? Just thinking because some peopel in Europe think that Sydney's the capital and I was just wondering...

Thanks for answering.

It is good that it is quiet. It is meant to be.

The city is relatively young. It is a PLANNED city not yet 100 years old. It was planned to be the administrative centre of the nation and was opened in 1927. Also, as it has not port or harbour, it stayed relatively quiet.

Tourists coming to Canberra shouldn't expect it to be like Sydney. Canberra has its own character, charm, history and is a great location as a stopping off points to many other attractions. It also has its own attractions, being a planned city, it is less congested and has a lot of great facilities to make the visit very enjoyable (eg - bike tracks that cover the whole city, a lake with beautiful buildings of interest dotted along the shore, great mountains right in the city for a spectacular view for people to see how the whole city was designed)
Depending on what you expect when you come to Australia. If you want party and raging and all night out drinking? Go to Sydney and Melbourne. Canberra is great for families type holidays.

Quite? Absolutely. Beautiful? Even more so.
