Because we have a right to be different! Why be interested in something so banal and trite? And we love hockey, baseball, and real football too.

I like soccer more than basketball, but most americans don't. They don't realize it really is a beautiful game. I didn't like it either until I was a small town in england one year during the world cup. There was nothing to do so I had to watch soccer every night. After watching a few matches I began to see how great it was. But most americans will watch 15 minutes and get bored and change the channel. Again, the only reason I didn't do that was because where I was there was nothing else to do.

First, if you will forgive me, I need to take issue with some parts of your question. The American men's national team is currently ranked 16th in the world out of 199 FIFA members (source: http://www.fifa.com/worldfootball/ranking/lastranking/gender=m/fullranking.html#confederation=0&rank=158). I wouldn't call that weak. The men's team just defeated Mexico to win the Gold Cup championship. The U.S. women's team is ranked number 1 on earth and is heavily favored to win the Women's World Cup this September.
I think you mean the U.S. team should be stronger given the nations size, wealth and athletic tradition if the sport was more popular. On this we agree. The reason a sport is popular depends on history and hapinstance as much as anything else. Soccer, Cricket and Rugby are international sports largely because the British empire was so vast.
Soccer is currently growing rapidly in popularty in the U.S. Just compare the strength of our national team in 1990 to today. Who knows, one day it just might become more popular here than basketball.

Speaking for myself, THIS Yank prefers soccer, especially the English Premier League. But I'm in the minority in this country. Our sports traditions were established in isolation during the late-1800's-to-early-1900's period, when radio and TV didn't exist. Today, the big four sports remain football(NFL and college), baseball, hockey, and basketball. Major League Soccer might make inroads with the arrival of Beckham, but it will take time.

Not every American has that opinion. I like soccer more than basketball, I couldn't tell you why people even like basketball.
Maybe because those people don't get the sport as much, but either way, they can have their own opinion and like whatever they want.

ProfessorC wtf?? Real Football. Soccer was made before American football and is a way more popular sport internationally. Look at the so called important leagues of athletes that America has they have players who take steroids, drugs, involved in accidents, and involved in so many scandals. Your athletes don't act anything professional.
And the Fifa and soccer clubs help in contributing help to the needed ones.

well i play both and that's because i could never choose between them. I luv soccer because it's intense and it's so physical and it pushes u to your limit and it takes a lot to make one point. I love basketball because it takes so much practice just to get one shot down and the feeling of dribbling down the court and having control over the ball is awesum.

Because they wanna be different, why do you think they still have feet and yards.
And they are never gonna like soccer because they won't give it a chance?

i'm not exactly sure what you're asking because of your broken english, but we like basketball because it is so much more exciting than soccer. soccer is considered a kids game here, it's so boring.
