Happy Retirement and Welcome to the 21st Century. I'm just getting here myself.
I got a cell phone a couple of years ago because I needed one. I got a DVD recorder last year because I wanted one and they finally became affordable. In a couple of weeks, I'm getting a used laptop from a friend of mine. It'll be my first home computer. Now....I can be just like everyone else.
I have a few years to go before I retire, but like you I already know what I want to do. There are so many volunteer opportunities out there.
I wish you many, many merry days.

After using Yahoo! Answers for a couple of weeks, I just found this seniors page today. I retired early a couple of years ago. After a thirty-year hiatus, I've just taken up playing bridge again at the local Senior Center. I notice they have a lot of other activities I might try. Here's a compliment: I notice the spelling is sooo much better on this page than elsewhere on Yahoo! Answers. Have a great day everybody.

There are no accidents. I just answered 2 Q's in the Senior Cit. group. (Cranky shared that a friend calls us Seasoned Citizens. Rather inventive, that!) I agree that the spelling and syntax, as well, is superior.
The little "whipper-snappers" could learn a thing or three from us.
Age is a number. Life is grand. You need never allow in the thought that you are at the mercy of time. You have time in your hands. Make something of it. You will die, trying, but until then, have fun. I intend to go out screaming, "Ya-Hoo!"
C, :)!!

Well-come-on-in. The more the merrier and the better the questions and the answers. I like this forum as so far I have not seen a great number of people getting stuck on stupid with their answers and bashing what we have going here.
Good that you can use the daughter's computer. If you are not yet ready to commit to buy a computer you can also go to your local library as most now offer a computer for people to use for a block of time each day longer if no one else wants to use it.

Home computers aren't that expensive if you get one on a good sale. The system I am using now only cost me $800, and that is including all taxes AND the Norton Anti-Virus.
Hint to the daughters that it would make an appropriate birthday or Christmas gift!
Welcome to the group Peppa J! I hope you have a long and happy association with us. Enjoy your retirement and stay happy and busy. Keeping your body and mind active is the secret to enjoying increasing age!

Welcome to this new life. You've worked hard for it, raised your family and now it's time to do the things that you've always wanted to do.
One of the best things about this life, and this age, is the fact that you're now able to do just what you want, when you want to do it. Probably for the first time in your life.
The folks on this website are a fantastic bunch of people and they'll do their very best to help you with any questions you may have.
It sounds to me like you have some really fun plans. You will enjoy it all and at your own pace. That's the thing that I love the best, being able to live this life at my own pace rather than someone else's.
Enjoy, Enjoy, Enjoy!

Computers: You do not need the latest and greatest to function perfectly for Internet. In fact, find a good used one ... the kids love the newest, fastest on the market for gaming. Internet does not require all this speed. If you look around, you will find a more than adequate computer for about 150-200 used. Just make sure it has Windows XP on it, and hopefully, it will have MS Office on it also. Good luck

Hey Peppa J,
welcome to Club Retirees! I just know you are going to love being retired, and believe me you will never look back. I volunteered to read with a student at a local elementary school in my neighborhood. Haven't had time to do what I really want to do, but maybe, Lord be willing, next year I can take a trip.

Your life is just about to begin!,throw the time table away, and the CLOCK!!!, do what YOU want to do and not be told what to do,the PC is a really good idea, but take great care about giving personal details out, your daughters should help out there.
After sorting the decorating and gardening out(we all do it)get some sort of hobby, nothing that takes all your time up though, enjoy yourself, and take care.
Think about yourself for a change.

i in my opinion think of that house is the suitable place I certainly have ever been. yet.....The Oregon Coast is mind-blowing (Coos Bay section) Toronto is amazingly exciting, multiple variety. Niagara Falls is fantastically, so is the force to get there from Toronto. Las Vegas is cool. in case you like a occasion city. The lights fixtures are perfect on the strip.
