i have 2 other boys age 2 and 4 and they go to daycare 1 day a week and have been for a long time ( my day off) now i have my 3rd boy and im breastfeeding. I want to put my baby (now 6 weeks ) in for the same 1 day when hes about 8 weeks. i dont think im being selfish wanting 1 day a weeks without the kids... but i have never nursed successfully before and this will mean i need to express some milk to get him through the day. any advice on how toaccomplish this is greatly welcome. how much milk do i need to express?
do i express manually because its only 1 day a week, or do i invest in a pump.
thankx in advance.

There are many great pumps available, Medela being my favorite. If you are on WIC, they often times provide a pump for you free of charge. I would ask them about it. Otherwise, if you have any luck with manually expressing your milk, I would suggest it seeing as how it's only 1 day/week.

You are not selfish at all for wanting one day a week to yourself. I am a preschool teacher and a mother of three and I need me time in order to be a good teacher and a good parent.

I will tell you that one day a week of childcare with a nursing baby that has never had a bottle is going to be a rough adjustment. He is probably going to have a rough day for the first few weeks, on the other hand he could do fine, but speaking from experience, it's going to be rough.

I would suggest that you start pumping now, so that you can build up an adequate supply. I would plan on the number of bottles you think he would need for the number of hours he is there, and then provide one or two extra.

If you can pump now and have someone else feed him for one feeding a day, it should be a smoother adjustment.

Manual expression will take you forever, I would buy a pump....you don't NEED one of the expensive electric pumps just to pump for one day a week, if you want one, all the power to you....they are very nice to have. I remember really liking the Advent pump, and that one was a manual.....although it worked much better than trying to manually express on your own. I used that one for quite a while and it worked out great.

I should add that I breastfed all three of my kids, even my twins.

I would suggest you start those bottles asap to get him used to it. Or it could mean you driving into day care for nursing until he is used to bottles. Since it is only one day, I think a manual is fine. You can't go wrong with an electric however and you may find wanting to pump more often for a "stock pile" or just to allow someone else to feed the baby while you get some time to yourself other then your daycare day.
Try a manual, you can always invest in an electric.
But start those bottles now. We had a rough time transitioning to bottles. I was lucky daycare is right at my work.

I positioned my daughter in daycare at 6 weeks. My husband and that i the two paintings - and that i in easy terms went back to paintings area-time for some extra weeks. I had no problems. My daughter is now 2 a million/2 - has in easy terms been unwell a million time at 4 months previous, and is extremely properly behaved and self reliant. She grow to be an exceedingly laid back toddler from delivery nonetheless. on the different hand, my son, who's now 4 a million/2 grow to be with me for in easy terms some million 12 months 4 months - I labored at a family individuals employer (place of work) and that i grow to be waiting to take him with me. he's lots extra clingy and whiny and not prepared to purpose issues on his very own. My daughter specially circumstances help him dress - haha. i'm getting so unwell of folk asserting daycare is not any stable. i like my young toddlers extra desirable than something - I did my study and found an incredible daycare center that I depended on. My son being the 1st newborn, of direction grow to be spoiled some, so as that incredibly contributed to his habit. i'm no longer asserting one way is extra effective than the different - yet end being so judgmental everybody!

My supervisor at work and I both started our babies in daycare on the same day, at 6 weeks old. My son was a formula/bottle baby while hers was breast fed. Being that we worked only a mile from the daycare she would just go to daycare at feeding time and breast feed. She also had a bottle of breast milk sent along "just incase".
