Grass will not grow and I would like to plant some type of groundcover. I am in north Georgia.

if you just want groundcover try pachysandra, bishopsweed, periwinkle, chameleon plant.... or try a shade garder with hosta, astilbe, goatsbeard. there are several other shade loving plants that you could plant....... looks nice and you wouldn't have to mow under the trees!

I finally gave up after seeding and sodding with every type of grass known to the nursery. I planted vinca vine under mine and it does thrive, looks beautiful even when it is not in bloom and can be controlled with the weed eater when it starts to invade the surrounding grass. Plus, as an added benefit, the pine needles fall unnoticed in between the vines, I never see them, they don't affect the vinca and haven't raked needles since I planted the vinca!

My mum has huge pine trees in her back garden and she has grass plants underneath them! I dont think much else will grow because of the soil, worth a try with anything thou.

I used to live in the woods over in White off of Camp Creek Road. I always had HUGE Hostas. I also had wild ferns growing in my yard. Unfortunately, they grew where they wanted and if I tried to transplant them, they died. My lilitrope (sp?) grew fairly well along my walkway. In the deepest parts of the yard, we just gave up and raked all our straw into an "island".

Aguga is a good shade ground cover under trees, and hosta,s also will grow under your pines.

Truthfully, because of the acidic soil and all of the pine needles it would be extremely difficult to grow anything at all.
Why not just put a stone edge around it and put in some mulch.

its probably gonna be really hard to grow anything under it cuz of the roots of the tree. which is why ur grass wont grow cuz it roots suck up all the water and takes the nutrients for its self leaving nothing for any other kinda plants.

nothing at all not even weeds really want to grow in that type of soil because of the acid
