Visualization is a powerful tool that can help you do just about anything. Its not magic, its really just 'mental practice'.

The bet way to describe it is to tell you about an experiment that I learned about when I was studying Kinesiology:

It was a study on basketball free-throws. There were three groups. One group practiced shooting free-throws every day for a week. The second group was a control group and didn't practice at all. The third group practiced shooting free-throws in the heads only (ie visualization)

The results were interesting. As one might predict the control group didn't improve. The group that practiced every day did indeed improve (lets call that 'X' improvement). The third group who did visualization improved 95% of X. (ie - they improved almost as much as the actual practice without even touching a basketball!)

That eperiment just proved that it works. However the real power of visualization comes when you mix it with real training. In basketball or in anything. In the 70's and 80's the soviet union sports machine was almost unstoppable because they used this technique long before Western science had learned of it and believed in it.

Nowadays almost all athletes use it to enhance their performances. Especially people who do activities like diving where there are complex movements to do quickly without time to 'think' about it. Almost every diver or track athlete will mentally rehearse their performance just before they do it - and it helps! Of course they do real training too.

I can't tell you how fast you will see results, that depends on the activity and your mental capacity all that I can say is that it works but it is best done in addition to real world training.

You can use visualization for anything from important business meetings to skydiving to make yourself better prepared for the real thing.

Only psychological things and increased mind power to figure out how to get things. It connects you to other parts of the brain where your intlligence, insight, love and answers are. Fantasy is absolutely necessary to get out side of reality to see where you can add to it and get the big picture. I even lost 17 pounds automatically. Another three on purpose and I feel I can do what I want with that. I think I would say that if you go after one thing, it means you have to give up something else sometimes. Like if you take the low road you miss the scenary of the moutain, but try to get a wagon over the mountain. I take it your talking about "The Secret" and all that's going on now in movies, novels and every field. I would look at all that as broad information and specifics also. They all help with traditional methods.

All big projects were result of visualization or imagination. Example: if you desire a car, post picture on the wall and look at it every chances you have. Your mind will resucinate on feed back on how you will obtain the car. That is use of brain of mind.
