I am so surprised these genres have not phased out LONG AGO. I can't believe the majority of America continue to listen and accept this music. Whatever happened to GOOD music with MEANING, such as pure, classic Rock'n'Roll??? Has everyone forgotten where they came from? That was the height of America... that was what truly represented people... people spoke their thoughts freely, and it was all done with original, unforgettable MUSIC. This music was done with actual *instruments*, for example, which is totally unlike Hip-Hop, which is constructed of nothing more than digital files being repeated over and over again by a digital keyboard. Ridiculous! There's nothing better than a good rock ballad that tells a story. I'd love to hear your own opinion on this.

Ridiculous is the word, I would bet it only takes but A few minutes to come up with one of this kinds of tunes and to listen to it, it's like what is this stuff. You used to be able to turn on MTV and watch a good variety of music, now rap is all you see! And to me, if they play rap, why don't they play jazz, bluegrass, country, instrumental, and stuff like that?! it's all going downhill - it's nothing but pure thumping RAP!!! Rock and roll will NEVER die, for the simple reason that has the ability to bring out many different styles and emotions such as pain, joy, being happy, feelings of compasion and have a tune behind it. I would also like to add: Ain't it funny that how people just love Rap HAVE TO HAVE A COSTUME THAT GO'S WITH IT? i ask some different people about this or i will say i talked about it before with people and it seems even if you don't like it,, it's something you got to be into to be accepted in the crowd. Thats a shame --But i respect whatever a person wants to listen to, but like disco it's gotta go sometime and for me i can't wait!

ROCK ON!!!!!!!!!

you're patently ignorant in case you think of that there is not any musical skills in hip hop. Outkast gained the Grammy for superb ALBUM OF THE twelve months in 2003 for "Speakerboxxx/the affection under" like hi? PLEASE coach your self before making generalized statements approximately genres of song. i don't understand why human beings think of of hip-hop as being non-instrumental while so oftentimes musical compositions in hip-hop are as complicated and properly-progressed as the different variety of song. And in case you prefer to talk approximately loss of stable song in songs, shall we glance at pop rock and an excellent variety of determination rock... purely becuase you may play 4 chords on a guitar and write sappy lyrics that make little ladies moist, and subsequently sell thousands and thousands, does not advise you're a stable musician. The previous 20 hip-hop has long previous from an underground stream in to between the, if not the, best impacts on pop subculture. Hip-hop is right here to stay, so bounce on.

No offense, but you do realize you are saying the same exact thing that people used to say about Rock 'n' Roll? Now, if that isn't irony, I don't know what is. Rock was the original music of the devil, and was going to lead youth to ruin. Now, Rock is accepted and Rap has taken that crown.

Personally, I'm not a real fan of rap, but I appreciate that others like it, and can see what they like about it, even if I don't. It's got a beat, and can be danced to. And generally it does have something to say. At least, just as much as most Rock 'n' Roll. I mean, for every rock song that has a "meaning", there are 50 that are nonsense.

There is just as much creativity in rap as there is in Rock, just in a completely different way.

What is so funny is that you think that rock used to say anything different than rap. You assume to know how they make their music. Well there are people in hip hop who know music and not just how to make it but about notes and tone and things you probably don't know. There are plenty of hip hop artist who do use live instruments. For you to presume to know music and it's origins speaks volumes about your character. Music is not just rock. Music is rock, hip hop, r&b, classical, rap, gospel and so much more but a simple mind only sees one genre of music. Music is an expression of the one who creates it and if you don't like their expression then you have the right to turn it off. Make that choice and skip critical crap. And if you actually listened to more than that prepackaged hip hop you might learn something. And to let you know I like all kinds of music.

you know, I would've agreed with you longer ago. I'm mainly a classic rock girl myself. It's all about queen, pink floyd, the doors, etc.

however, I have recently been exposed to GOOD rap and hip hop. believe it or not, it does exist. don't listen to the mainstream radio crap. thats not real rap/hip hop. Listen to some older stuff, 80s and early 90s, that tends to have more meaning than today's 'music'.

ps-you cant call rock the TRUE style of music. that's all based on personal perspective.
both rock & roll and hip hop stem from the same genre: blues.

what about pure classic, rap/hip-hop. those days the music was great. do u actually think any genre is better than they were when they first started. im a big fan of rap/hip-hop and i can say with pride that the music is not as great as it was before in the late 80's and early 90's

I agree with you that classic rock was the height of america. Pink Floyd is one of my all time favorites, but I think it's possible to like both. You say you like free spoken thoughts and unforgettable music, music that has meaning and a mesaage, some hip hop is like that. Not what you hear on the radio, but some songs have great depth and meaning to them. I'm not trying to say you have to like one or the other or hate one or the other, but I really think its possible to like both.

did you ever consider just because rap isnt telling you the same story that rock does it still may be telling a true story - dear mamma by tupac and not all rap is done on a synthesizer - pianos - violinist - flutes - all kinds of instruments are used trick daddys take it to the house used nothing but a marching band - they didnt even plug in their guitars to make it electric ( ya heard me ) and baby not everyone came from where u did - we all come from different places - and rock n roll isnt all that pure -

Hon, it is nowhere NEAR the American majority--only the majority of 12-18 year olds in America!
I hate it as much as you do, and I blame it for the general slide into poor morals, too.

I don't like a lot of styles of music enough to buy it. I wouldn't buy rap, dixieland, or contemporary Christian or most stuff that passes for Pop these days....... I like country, rock and roll, seventies rock, and especially Southern Gospel...

Rap lyrics that are a lot more out there sexually and a whole lot more violent in tone than I care for..I don't know how anyhone who loves his little children could listen to such horrible lyrics in front of them.
