I always here these terms on television but I can't distinguish between the two.

What is the difference and which is worse?

Critical IMO would be more serious.

Critical injuries are life threatening injuries and you could die from them and serious injuries are not life threatening but are serious to the part damaged and take longer to heal.

Critical is worse -- it means your life is in danger. Serious means it's bad, but they expect you to live.

Fatal is the worst...that means the person is dead. Critical is next....
that means a person is close to death and could go either way.
Serious last....means you're a hurtin' unit, but you're going to live.

Critical is worse. Even worse than that is "grave".
