Well, Aretha Franklin never played a role in a movie (she was herself singing in The Blues Brothers) and Marlon Brando never had a record contract. Then there's Frank Sinatra, who was nominated for an Academy Award for his first movie role after what was already a well-defined career in the music business; and then there's Barbra Streisand who struck gold acting first before she began her storied career as a singer. The answer: you just have to be gifted, persistent and lucky to have both, but just because you excel in one does not mean you will excel in the other (Mariah Carey and Patrick Swayze immediately come to mind). And I doubt that Aretha and Marlon were left wanting in their singular careers!

It does seem to be the current trend right now, doesn't it? I think it is mostly that some stars are so eager for fame that they try to do everything at once. Have you noticed that GOOD actors and actresses stick to acting and GOOD singers stick to singing? There are a couple who actually posses talent in both areas, but really, they are few and far between. I think its mostly just that the "tween queens" lately have been trying to outdo each other and we have ended up in an entertainment culture where the lines between each facet of the industry have been blurred. My advice to anyone seeking any of these types of careers is to stick to your strengths. Find your niche and be the expert within it- be the best at what you do and you can't go wrong.

It depends on how the Talent Agent wants to direct the career of his client.

Often Talent Agents will prepare their client for a Broadway, TV, Motion Picture or TV Commecial career, or spokesperson career. It depends on the Talent Agent and where he believes is best for his client.

it kind of seems like it. i mean. with the disneyish actors, they usually sing later on and vise versa but i think that when you are like a really serious, proffesional actor, you focus on one thing not both singing and acting (unless you do musical theatre) in which case you need to sing and act.
