Yea well a few years back people talked about making the pads smaller and removing the face mask to make the game LESS violent. The pads are for hitting, not for protection. By the way do you get xtra points for those pregame dances, while they make those scary faces? In the U.S. we have something like that its called Line Dancing. If Rugby players are so tough why do they throw the ball to someone else right before they get hit? I would think they would lower their shoulder and run over a couple of people. As for the "non stop play" well when the ball goes to the left lets say, I see a bunch of guys to the right standing around or jogging so that's a stretch at best.
Now really i am not knocking your sport but comparing the two is like comparing apples to oranges. You guys have no forward pass. Try going across the middle, while concentrating on the ball, knowing that one, two, three guys who don't care about the ball are just lining you up to separate you from the ball.
Hey enjoy your game its fun to watch and we will enjoy ours.

I've played both, and enjoy both. However, what you may refer to as "sissy" rugby, is actually more brutal. I think it has something to do with the pads (or a matress in your terms).
Rugby is more of a finesse sport, a gentleman's game. The form used in the sport is what keeps you safer. In football the name of the game is bring down the ball carrier down by any means. The game of rugby is governed by the players. Think about it, if you were to tackle high or try to take out their legs what happens? You get your *** beat!
I will agree with you that rugby players are better conditioned athletes.
If every play in rugby was to start off as a scrum, side out, or a maul you may have a very valid point.
I have and always will say, "The best thing that happened to soccer was someone picking up the ball."

Omg, I've never played Rugby because my boyfriend is actually English and he's told me all sorts of horror stories about the sport.
He loves soccer and most other sports, but Rugby was the only one he hated playing in gym because it was so violent. He's got a scar from where someone's braces came in contact with the side of his head back when he was 13.
If there'd been helmets like American football that wouldn't have happened. On the bright side, Rugby players earn MAD respect around the world. They're much tougher than American football players in my opinion.

Football is more then just toss the football around. As a lot of people call football players ******* try having a 250 pound guy run you down at full speed!! Do you ever wonder why they have all those pads on!! My brothers both play football and have multiple injuries a peice!!

Americans don't "Feel the need to wear mattresses" when they play football. And they don't just chuck the ball to someone and let them do all the work. They're both great sports, but don't dog American football just because you lack the skills to play.

Since there are rugby clubs in many parts of America, there is a good chance that at least one of the players on at least one club is an American.

Don't talk about something if you know nothing about it. Mattress on your back? You don't wear anything on your back ret@rd. No tactics? The game is 90 percent mental. The coaches are trying to out coach each other calling different complex schemes and plays, coverages, and audibles. In your sport it just looks like they grabbed a bunch of people out of the insane asylum and told them to run around like little kids and grab each other.

Isn't rugby that sport where men who are too big for soccer, but too small to play real football, bunch up and try to jam their heads up each other's asses?
