We all are born with that potential, it is how we are raised and conditioned by parents or primary care givers that either helps that genius to blossom or suppresses it.

It depends on what you call genius. Some people think of genius as some natural ability which exist in some people in a far greater measure than in others. Such case is the born genius.
Others think of genius as capacity to produce and create what most other people produce only with great difficulty, if at all. This is the made genius. Their works may seem miracles, but in reality it is more like the saying, that genius is one percent inspiration and ninety-nine percent. Some observers tell that a degree of luck is usually involved. People call this genius because how it works remains something of a mystery.

Sorry, you have to work with what you've got and if you weren't born a genius, there's nothing you can do that will make you one. But that doesn't mean you can't make the most of what you have. In many ways, it's tough to be a genius. They make lousy teachers because they simply don't understand how someone can fail to grasp an idea the first time it is presented. It can be a hazard in other lines of work as well. But the person who has maximized his or her intelligence is often far better off because he can relate to other people better, can understand their problems better, and can work better on projects that call for cooperation and interaction.

This one is more nature than nurture. While it is true that someone with the potential to become a genius (they are born with the requisite IQ) can be stymied by a bad environment, the opposite does not seem to be true. You can be in the most lavish of environments, but if you don't have the inate IQ, all the $$$ and education in the world won't help you become a genius (see George Bush)...

Actually, in spite of study and research by academics the world over, for hundreds of years, no one has yet been able to establish the actual link between genes or environment in being a 'genius'. The arguments still abound.
