Having partnered many ballerinas, the thing I would tell you is to really jump into any lifts you and your danseur have to make. Back when.... I was 6' and weighed 190lbs and could bench press 350lbs. I hadted lifting lazy ballerinas into their jumps and did it only once in rehearsal before I let them what the score was. Other than that, I would tell you that it is better to be accidentally groped than to be dropped. If a guy's hands slip, it is an accident. If you know it isn't that is really bad behavior and let the director know after you discuss it with your partner. Be prepared to handled physically especially around the base of your rib cage and possibly your legs (thighs). Your danseur's hands are going to go places you don't normally let strangers go.... remember that your relationship is professional (even if it is a class or amateur dancing). Remember to communicate and have some fun trying to make your pas look effortless. Good Luck

I just started pas de deux and one thing that I would recommend is do everything the same as you would in ballet class. Lift up, straight legs, shoulders down, etc. You want to still look good.

Ok...
1.) Cut your nails nothing hurts more than jamming a nail into your partners hand.
2.) If you have tips on your nails....get them removed. They'll chip and it will hurt.
3.) Wear a leotard that you feel comfortable in nothing that grabs in the wrong places and such. Nothing that you have to pull up etc.
4.) If you are wearing a skirt tie it tight.
5.) Try not to be nervous...they can feel you shaking =).
6.)Take advil before your class...some girls such as me experience pain in their ribs as their partner has a tight grip there.
7.) Take generous piles and preperations for everything.
8.) Listen to the music.
9.) Trust your partner....they will be there for you....dont worry about falling...relax..and it will be so much easier.
10.) HAVE FUN!

good luck!
