I ran into a group of friends from college at a bar in new york city. I didn't tell them I was coming but I saw them there and I live in Virginia. What is the theory called that this isn't a concidence but something else? I think it may have something to do with circles?

Although what happenned to you is refferred to as good old coincidence in most circles, you could always try and explain it in terms of the theory that there are no coincidences in the universe, and everything happens for a certain reason. You put a certain level of energy out into the universe, and if you have good karma, the dots get connected in a seemingly magical way.

It is the way the universe works. There is a reason for everything.

Hope this helps.

I'm not certain, but perhaps you have in mind the concept of Six Degrees of Separation which describes the world’s interconnectedness across the racial and socio-economic lines and even geographical distance. In essence, everybody on this planet is separated by only six other people. It is based loosely on scientific work begun in the 1960’s at Harvard by Stanley Milgram and at MIT by Ithiel de Sola Pool.

A few people have extended the concept of interconnectedness to include a "psychic" connection in which people find themselves on the same path to the point of meeting acquaintances in unlikely locations. I don't but this and, instead, believe it is mere coincidence.

Is this the 6 degrees of separation theory? I can't really explain it--too confusing for me!
