Surely some of it should be used to investigate why apparently intelligent people are incompetent at the simple task of looking after the safety of their children.

Red mist rising, i can see that , but whats the point, the British Police should have been involved from day one, or at least as near. Expert investigators said at the time they were willing to fly out immediately, now its probably too late. The fault lies not just with the McCanns, sorry but who hasn't left their kids for a time without checking on them, i.e at home, in a playgroup, on holiday, its so easy to judge after the fact. The portugese police are responsible too for refusing help in the first place. Unless Robert Murat has something to do with it and he's their only suspect, i can't see them finding her now.
Use the money for a private investigation team, sure, but this hinges on a break of luck, as much as anything. Do you think journalists can really dig up more information than those already involved, i doubt it. Perhaps some of the money could be put into a central fund to find other missing children.
The Mccanns said they have been surprised at how many children go missing every year in the UK, , perhaps they could be persuaded to donate to it.

Has anyone asked the question, why was the children alone in the apartment, I seem to be missing something, I thought these were reasonably well off intelligent people, a nursery has just had to close down in the UK because they left a sleeping child unattended for 20 minutes and the child strangled itself with the rope handle of a bag which she had placed round her neck, no one in their right mind would accuse the nursery of murder, the only thing they did wrong was missed the bag the child was playing with, the McCanns were out for an evening meal and left the children or child alone, have we got double standards or what, if I have missed something then please inform me, I feel sorry for Maddy but not the parents.

Exactly you have hit the nail on the head. I have been saying all along why oh why is there not a reporter out there willing to stick their head over the parapet and do something. There was Watergate, how about McCanngate? I would disagree about one thing there is no apathy here, there seems to be mass hysteria about chucking money at the McCanns and I cannot understand why. It is NOT being used to find Madeleine, the public seem to have gone crazy with fund raising efforts to raise the money mountain and profile of this couple. Why? What the heck is going on. I find the whole scenario mind blowing. It is over two months now of pacts of secrecy, jetting around the world, politicians bowing and scraping, pop stars getting in on the act, public adoration exercises and more and more ridiculous money making ideas and no sign at all of anyone actually as the phrase goes getting down and dirty and searching. Why also is the media actually joining in with all this? I thought they were supposed to give a balanced viewpoint. If this is a scam then expose it. If it is not then I will apologise. I have absolutely no doubt that I will not be apologising!

No one knows what the fund is being used for apart from financing their continued stay over there. I went onto the official website and asked that audted accounts be published. Everyone who made a donation has the right to know what happened to that money. I think everyone should ask the question what is happening to the fund money and shouldnt it also be used to help find all the other missing children.

I think we should all do what Gerry Mccann wants and keep Maddy in the public eye.......and continue to watch those 2 neglectful parents very closely...they've slipped up a couple of times already....big style....someone who's able to will take them to task eventually....then they'll be a few people with egg on their faces.........especially the Pro-Mccann followers.......

I agree. I have also said I would love to see an investigative reporter go out on their own. YOu know what actually there was..a spanish reporter and nobody wanted to hear anything he had to say. There could be many PI's on this case with the amount of money. The McCanns did say clearly in the beginning they would not be hiring any PI's and this is what made me a bit suspicious.

In my opinion the fund for Maddy should be looked at under the Trade's Description Act

i agree 100% with your oppinion.
maddy is more than likely dead by now, i have children and i would never leave them alone while i was out eating and drinking. i have no sympathy for her parents, if they were a 'lower' class family, they would have been ripped to shreads by the media. i feel sorry for maddy, she is just an innocent little girl. i also feel sorry for maddys siblings because with parents like they have, what is gonna happen to them?
auctioned off on ebay perhaps?

I totally agree with you. I can't understand why they're not "leaving any stone unturned" either. I know that with all the money they now have, I would definitely employ a PI to investigate, but then, I'd be out there myself searching for my child instead of doing my daily jog & blog.
