How many commercials have there been where men get stupid over a woman because of her nice body, she smiles at him, or she wears sexy clothing. These commercials do degrade anyone, they just over emphasize our reactions to the opposite sex. They are more funny than anything, because most people realize they are an exaggeration.

Degrading to women--YES
Am I offended by it--NO.
The oldest maximum in sales is "Sex sells."
The target audience wishes that they could attract women like those in the ad. A woman may not love you for your special fresh washed and perfumed scent, but if it gives you an advantage then millions of guys will try and buy it.
Men are still the great consumers and targets of most of the ads. Marketing to women takes more brains and a subtle nature. A brute force ad with a sexual content will be enough to grab any man's attention so when you are limited to 30 seconds they are the best.
One of the more effective was to target women is with an in depth article, and infomercial or longer campaign. The Taster Choice Coffee ad is an good example of this. A long saga about a man and woman's love life. It caught the attention and made the audience look forward to the next commercial.
But, when you have to be brutal quick and sell your message fast then the only way to do it is to sell with sex. Of course if I were a woman then I might get offended by someone assuming that I can be so easily swayed, but then I would think it's just the men that think that way. The waste there money and it doesn't mean a single thing.

There are a lot of commercials that offend me, but these are just plain annoying. I don't find them to be objectifying or offensive to women. On this one (I can't believe I'm saying this), I agree with joel the troll. I do believe that men are more and more being made to look stupid (especially white men)--not that stereotyping against women has gone away--but I do feel that men are quite often treated as infantile or inept in recent commercials. I can't stand this type of thing because it's wrong to do to anyone: making men look like idiots is stereotyping just as much as when women are made out to be sex objects or housewives.

Well if you wanna get technical, the degradation of women in advertising usually centers around women being considered male sexual objects, and in the case of the commercials, the man is the one who once he sprays this "magic cologne" he becomes the sexual object of women's desire. So technically looking at objectification, it would be the man, not the woman who is being degraded; however desired.
Are the commercials that show women with men falling all over them degrading to men? in most's opinion, no, because that is an expected social norm, IMO it's degrading to the woman as it depicts her attractiveness as only skin-deep and objectifies her.
I see it as evidence of desired role reversal more than degradation of women and if anything degrading to men, but that's just me.
just my opinion.......

No, because they're are just over-exaggerating on how much their project works. These things are meant to make you look good and smell good. And who do men want to smell and look good for, women. Plus, it's just a commercial. It's not like were are now suppose to fall for the men if they wear these products.

face it.
Sex sells.
it's the human condition.
As long as there are going to be women to will degrade themselves to get the attention and fake affection from a man, there will all ways be these type of commercials. Nothing against the human race, both sexes involved, but as long as there are going to be those who demean themselves, there will no no equality and these things will continue. but remember, Even Freud said, " sometimes a cigar is just a cigar ". tongue - in - cheek my dear, if you are instead offended by these commericals, inform the companies involved. But remember the human race will always find new and unique ways of tearing down any dignity it may have.

The advertising works. My teenage son has his buddies over constantly. My basement (the 'hang-out') smells like an Axe bomb just got dropped. GaG me. When their chics are coming over is the worst. I practically want suffoctae myself, they put on twice as much!!! (Makes me remember H.S. when all the boys drowned themselves in Polo...ugh)I have tried to tell them that they might be actually offending some of the girls to no avail. All they say is "No way man, chics dig this stuff". Thanks for depleting the ozone layer guys. Axe might be completely responsible for the much more rapid deteriorization of the O.L.
No, I don't find them particularly degrading. Just really cheesy. Suuuuper cheesy. Very adolescent, as IS the target audience.

They need a chocolate commercial that when a women eats a piece of Mr. Goodbar the guys flock to her and give her their number. Or when we put on our secret body spray the guys do that for us. - No, I find them pathetic, but I could care less. If things have to be superficial to attract the opposite sex, then I am glad I am no longer apart of the dating game.

I find the majority of US TV commercials inane, like most of the US TV shows. Usually the commercials and shows are offensive to both men and women, since they try to use sexual stereotypes to sell their useless products and stupid shows.
These TV marketers are trying to use the lowest common denominator to get our attention. The marketers assume we're stupid, selfish, sex-crazed, insecure, idiots who will fall for the oldest gender stereotypes they throw our way.
I try to ignore US radio, magazine, and newspaper commercials as well. I only watch a few Tv shows or movies, since the majority of it is boring, stupid, and/or offensive.
