It depends on what genre you want.

Family/Children Movies - Anything made by Disney/PIxar. Notable films are Toy Story, Toy Story 2, Monsters Inc., and Cars.

Horror Movies - Some great slasher films are Scream 2, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Jeepers Creepers 2.

Comedy - Shallow Hal, Something About Mary, Superstars, and Never Been Kissed.

considering that you name is some guy: i would assume no chick flicks so here are a few of mine and my boyfriends favourite movies:

Boondock saints
Lock, Stock and 2 smoking barrels
Snatch
Big Fish
Star Wars
Die Hard
Back to the future
Gladiator
Beautiful Mind
Butterfly effect
sixth sense
Whole nine yards
Grease (ok thats one of mine not his)
Harry Potter series
Sky High
Crouching Tiger, hidden dragon
House of flying daggers.
Dreamgirls
Transformers
alternatively you could always hire a classic like James Bond or something similar.
Finding Nemo is always a good choice
and Cars.
Pirates of the Carribean
Lord of the Ring
i would go for a movie that i know i wouldnt be disappointed in, and hopefully one that is mildly entertaining, i think there's too much misery in reality for us to watch it in a movie too,
oh Inside Man was good.

have a good night.
