Not such a simple formula, I'm afraid. Even people who are rich and successful are not happy...why? I think because we were not made for this world but for the next.

I expect you have gone too far into your own ambition rather than your essential needs. Like a good wife/gf/lover etc... The essential point is that you two love each other, the rest of how smart, how rich, how good looking etc... fades into insignificance in comparision with that essential factor.
Why are people richer now than before yet less happy? We are all greedy, and expect too much. We have a lot to be happy about.

Not really. If you were smart, then you would know it only takes a dose of proper reasoning as the simple formula of a happy and successful life.

Is it possible to be too smart? From my experience in order to have a happy and sucessful life firstly you need to identify what "sucess" is. there is no "one size fits all" answer. and it can be easy to take your definition of sucess from media influences. Unhappiness, in my opinion, can be measured by looking at what your expectations of your life are and then looking at the reality of your life. if there is a massive gap between what you want and what you have then the "unhappiness in your life" will be the gap between the two. It really is simple all you need to do is bridge the gap between what you want and what you have. Change your expectations to reflect your reality or change your reality to reflect your expectations. with regard to being too smart the only issue with this is that you can spend far to much time thinking about what you should be and not so much time being who you are. You truly are perfect at being you! try it you might like it!

Sorry, but by asking this question you are clearly not remotely smart. Just get on with it. Life is not a trial run, you are wasting time worrying about being happy when it may not get better. Go out there and make it happen, life will not come to you.

I don't think it's a simple formula - and I think success and happiness are different for everyone. Some people who have almost nothing (materially speaking) are extremely happy, and some people who appear to have it all are miserable. Maybe what we need to do is decide to be happy with what we have and who we are right now...and know that anything more that happens for us is a bonus. I'm working really hard to believe this for myself!

At the mercy of being too simple, I think intuition answers all questions. It accesses the happy answer part of your brain. We live in the questioning disatisfied side. It's a bad habit. Happiness is inside and can't be found on the outside. The outside can trigger the inside, but it's all inside. That might be part of the meaning of the saying, "Either you go within or you go without." When I meet someone else, though, I really try to get to know them and I can feel their feelings and get their experience or see their view of life. It's refreshing or a toil, but almost alway worth the trouble.

Philisophically speaking (since this is where you posted this question):
Life is an an uncertain path. The path we take is our own - no two are ever alike.
Our choices are what define our paths, wisdom is our guide, knowledge is our carrier and experience is our fuel.

Yes. Because if you are using reason and intellect (I assume that's what you mean by being smart) to find an emotion, you are doing the equivalent of looking for apples on a pear tree.

Scientists have recently discovered that the gene which is responsible for being intelligent is the same gene that is responsible for depression. The smarter you are, the more depressed you feel.
