I've worked at about ten factories, and they all do it regularly.
The theory is that if you have a really good cycle counting program, then you can prove to the accountants that your inventory is accurate, and then you won't have to a yearly physical inventory.
Blame your inventory manager, or the accountant in charge of inventory, in your company, for not having a good cycle count program in place.

No I'm a landscaper..I can't remember the last time I counted particles of soil. I used to work in a distribution center and when it was inventory I felt like finding a big empty box and playing hide and no seek.
God bless u,
Daniel

I work at a chemical plant, and yes, we have to do yearly inventory. I work in the lab, and I'm CURRENTLY working on inventory of all of our chemicals on hand! I hate it too!

We have a pub so we do a daily inventory which makes it quite easy for us but I understand what you're going through as I have done it in the past,it's a nightmare.

I work in a food processing plant. We do month-end inventory. I'm the boss, so I have less fortunate people do it for me!

I don't have to do inventory. I'd think the majority of jobs you wouldn't have to do inventory, someone else would be doing it.
