Lortab is considered L3, "moderately safe" (L1 being the safest for lactating women and L5 posing a risk.)
You might notice the baby is a little sleepy and at risk for constipation, although I wouldn't worry too much about that since your baby is a little older.
Check out the link for more information.

Here is a link that rates taking this medication as "Moderately safe" which is only one rank above "Unsafe"

I take it you would not want to take any risks, so according to this information I would not take it...
"The effects of Lortab in pregnancy have not been adequately studied. Do not take Lortab if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant unless you are directed to do so by your doctor. Drug dependence occurs in newborns when the mother has taken Lortab regularly prior to delivery. If you take it shortly before delivery, the baby's breathing may be slowed. Acetaminophen does, and hydrocodone may, appear in breast milk and could affect a nursing infant. If Lortab is essential to your health, your doctor may advise you to discontinue breastfeeding your baby until your treatment is finished."

Basically, follow most peoples advice and try to ride out the pain. Try some gentle back streches for some relief. Don't discontinue breastfeeding--it is vital to your baby's short term and long-term health.

Good luck! I hope you feel better soon.

Lortab was one of the medications I was put on after my c-section and I was breastfeeding. I do think it will be okay, will probably make baby very sleepy. But also I wouldn't take it without asking the doctor first. Take tylenol now and leave a message on the answering machine of the doctors to have them call you first thing in the morning.

I'm sure you can since you can take it while pregnant. You're not going to be taking enough to get high just to ease the pain, so it's not going to have that big of an effect on your milk production. If you can just take Tylenol today and then call your doctor tomorrow. Or you can call the OB ward at the hospital, they should be able to answer that for you...there's always someone there.

ONLY a doctor should answer that question. Anything can pass from you thru your breast milk to the baby and jepordize it's health. I'd wait to talk to the doc. Meantime, ice for 10 minutes then off for at least 10. then repeat for the first few hours. After that, ice then low heat.

i does no longer advise it. My handle it is that a balanced meals plan which has carbs is very counseled with the aid of many docs. My own take is that human beings have developed to prefer carbs. the toddler interior of you apart from mght desires those comparable meals. in basic terms a concept... why flow on a low carb meals plan to shed some pounds? A healthful toddler is greater significant than you being on a weight alleviation meals plan.

I wouldn't. It does pass through breast milk. Try tylenol. I know it doesn't work as well, but you have to think of the baby. If it's really bad, can you pump enough milk to get your baby through until you can talk to the doctor? Then you can take the medication and still have unaffected milk for the baby.

I wouldn't do it. I refused pain meds after the birth because of nursing. What if baby has some allergy? Better to suffer through than cause her a problem. sorry u r hurting. hope u feel better soon w/o meds

Of course it will be passed to your baby.
Tried to hold off until you can check with your doctor.
