This is an unfortunate misunderstanding and caricature of evolutionary theory. Allow me to make a slight alteration to your question, that might make you understand what us Darwinists really believe...

"Did your grandmother look like this?" says the creationist propagandist to a group of children while a projector shows a picture of some strange ape/grandma hybrid complete with glasses on the wall behind him. Of course no one's grandmother looks or looked like that, in fact, no one believes that our ancestors were apes at all. Here is the small but crucial difference:

We share a common ancestor with apes. It's not that our ancestors were apes, we share a common ancestor with them. Earlier, the apes shared a common ancestor with monkeys, earlier than that monkeys share a common ancestor with alligators, who share a common ancestor with fish who share a common ancestor with bacteria, all the way down to the beginnings of life on earth.

To use the trite (yet apt) analogy, we are all branches on the tree of life, homo sapiens' most recent branch diverged with the bonobo (also called the pygmy chimp, our closest ape cousin) at a fork, their species taking one side and ours another. Try to envision it as a fork, rather than the same branch mutating at some point from one species to another.

Evolutionists don't think that your great great grandmother was a monkey, just that we evolved from a common ancestor. Does that help to explain our position and make it seem slightly less absurd?

Well, actually, I believe mine were bears. It's why I feel the need to hibernate each fall. And, frankly, I think there's more of a mix of critters in there than they allow for. I mean, I have a neighbor who looks just like her dog [an Akita--looks better on the dog] and there are folks who resemble other animals.... some even resemble apes!

so far, yes, I believe we came from monkeys. but the correct theory is that monkeys and humans had a common ancestor. from there, some became monkeys and some became humans. i question though how evolved we are as humans...if we can really call ourselves human. yes we have reasoning power and can develop technology, but the way we treat other people is still undeveloped.

Yes....George Bush is descended from them and is currently the head monkey in the jungle. And no, I don't believe any of my ancestors were monkeys because there are no pictures in the family album of monkeys. Further, the theory of Evolution does not claim we are ancestors of any of the great apes. After you read your answers do a more in depth study of evolution and archeology.....

Most fossil intermediates in vertebrate evolution have indeed been found. A clear line of fossils now traces the transition between whales and hoofed mammals, between reptiles and mammals, between dinosaurs and birds, between apes and humans. The fossil evidence of evolution between major forms is compelling.

My question is, how long will it take for us to get rid of our reptillian or simian past,....our tail bones, body hair, man nipples, and other useless appendages.

UH HUH! There are many signs. Like our fingers and toes, ears, lips, the way we walk, and many more.
