Food is food. It is a steady diet of one type of food that causes the problems. Ketchup has been shown to cause cancer in lab animals. A local woman died from water poisoning while trying to win a contest at a local radio station. If you just eat spinach you will eventually have protein problems. If you eat nothing but steak you will be shorting your body of vital vitamins and minerals.
Balanced diets are the secret. Any food in a large enough volume is unhealthy.
As for McDonald's, it is high in a lot of things the body needs very little of so if you eat nothing but McDonald's it will cause you problems. But a Big Mac a month isn't going to kill most of us. I am diabetic. I have to watch what I eat. I count ever gram of carbohydrate and OCCASIONALLY I will have a double cheese burger. No fries and only diet (sugar free) drinks. Now that occasionally word is subjective. So one in a month to six weeks is about all I will eat.
If it was lethal, a lot more people would be dead and I wouldn't have a booklet published by my HMO that tells me what is available at several fast food joints and which of their foods I can indulge in from time to time.
Bottom line, if you are fat or sick it isn't McDonald's fault. It is your fault. If you insist on stuffing your face with fast food sooner or later it will get you. And you should know a steady diet of airline food is as bad or worse for you than McDonald's is.
One last point. Be careful of the term "All Natural". Arsenic, asbestos, lead, uranium, and countless other lethal concoctions are all natural. Honey may be all natural sugar but if you give it to a diabetic the resulting blood tests will be identical to the person eating the same amount of processed sugar.

Of course it's unhealthy! But aren't most enjoyable things unhealthy. It's all about moderation people. McDonalds a couple of times a month should be fine. McDonalds 4 times a week is not.

Nothing is really unhealthy (except some drugs) until you have too much of it.
What makes Mcdonalds become unhealthy quite fast is because a small amount of food contains a lot of calories, which is fine, that is, if you only eat that small amount and not order like another batch of fries,or get another burger.
But, most of us usually order more food to fill our stomachs. That's why it becomes unhealthy.
eat little at mcdonalds=healthy
eat a lot somewhere else (and I dont mean Burger king or White castle ) = healthy
you see the difference.

I think Mcdonalds is unhealthy and just like another person who answered this question said...it DOES have many calories in the food. But in a way, it does depend what you get. But otherwise ...I would say most of it is unhealthy.

There is a lot of grease, fat, and salt. But remember the fat in food is what makes it taste so good. Depending on how much you eat it, depends on what it does to you. If you eat it say, once a month, you shouldn't have to worry too much about it. But if you eat it twice a week you may gain weight. My family has recently gone through some issues and we eat out about twice a week now. Hence my 20 lbs weight gain. It's unhealthy from all the preservatives, salt, grease and fat. They don't really bake anything. They fry it. Just don't eat it often and you should be fine.

McDonald's is an anomaly because on the one hand they sell those greasy fries made from processed potato and that plastic ice cream (no real food in it) and on the other hand they sell real milk, real yogurt, real fruits and real salad. McDonald's started out completely unhealthy and now, wanting to cater to those who are looking for more healthy choices for kids, they have added healthier choices to their menu. Basically, if you want a healthy place to eat, I would not choose McDonald's, but cheers to them for trying. I hope one day they will sell whole grain buns, real dairy ice cream and shakes and less deep fried food.

I'm neutral on this. Yes, if you eat a double quarter pounder, Large fries and a Lg Choc shake every day then it's very unhealthy. If you get a grilled chicken sandwich without mayo, a garden salad and either water or ice tea, then it's not bad.
