I became interested in Islam when I saw a particularly vile video one day playing in a shop. It was so anti-Israel that it was seriously disturbing. Not that the people who owned the shop had anything to do with Israel or Palestine - they were simply Muslims.
Then I was robbed by one of our employees, who happend to be a Muslim. I was stunned, because he was so religious. I was told that as a Chrsitian, I was a target. It was acceptable to steal from me.
Anyway, since then I have read many books, long before the present troubles and long before 9/11. I have always been horrified at the wearing of the veil and female circumcision. And the hypocricy of the culture.
And yes, I do know some Muslims. I like to give them the benefit of the doubt. They are pleasant enough, but there is a definite barrier and some of the viewpoints are bizarre. The attitudes towards the women are disturbing. One couple refuse to allow their daughter to speak English, even though she will go to an English school, for example.

I got my ideas from the soldiers coming home from the Iraq war. They told us how their culture works and what they do from first hand experience. I do not listern to comic books about what your ancient prophets did or didn't do but by men who actually saw it happening. I go by what is happening today and will happen tomorrow.
they said if a girl peeped through a hole in their berka to glance at us just to see what we are doing they were basically slugged by a male relative or hit repeatedly with a stick.
Little girls were chained in rooms by heavy chains to keep them from wondering off they said. We could only see their eyes but they looked so sad and always like they were crying.
It was a terrible place where men were mean to each other and their wives and they little children.
"I felt as if the military had dropped me into hell complete with the demons walking around to taunt us."
"there is no good place in Iraq, it is only the smell of death, the feel of hate."
He said, "what you here on the news is not true it is not that good or nothing is being done to stop the violence. They hate and so they are violent it is as simple as that. They are not going to change that is their culture."
"The first arabic word you learn is hell. Because that is what is upper most in their minds all the time."
That is what the guys say that have come home.
Never did I hear that Islam is peaceful.
