I think it should be abuse. Depending on where you are located it could be considered abuse. Here if you smoke in a car with a child, it is illegal....

If were abuse I was abused too. But I dont see it that way. Careless yes but not abuse. Both my parents smoked when I was a child and now I am a grandmother but I wouldnt smoke around them for anything. Maybe now its a wake up call ...U think?

Next will be the people that smell bad and then the people that look bad until finally they get around to you and then you will realize this is a very bad idea but it is too late. This is why democracy is the very worst and most oppressive type of government. All it takes is any majority to oppress any minority.
Look into it, Hitler started all this anti smoking crap as he hated the smell!

Nope. At that point you're violating the parent's constitutional right, not only to smoke but you're also telling them how to raise their children. everyone in my family smoked when I was a child. Not only am I healthy (and so are all of my siblings) but I don't smoke either. And frankly, I'd be pissed if someone made it illegal for me to smoke in my own home or car.

As long as tobacco is legal, it can be smoked anywhere, anytime unless it is a public space where smoking is prohibited. If you don't like it - fine - don't smoke. If you don't like being around smoke - fine - lock yourself up at home. If you think cigarette smoking is "child abuse" - fine - don't smoke around your kids.
Meanwhile, leave the rest of us alone....you are not the health or morality police.
I'd be more concerned about the children being killed by drunk drivers, who kill 18,000 people a year in the U.S.
And, our government can't even stop the flow of illegal drugs into and around our country-nor prevent their use....how do you suppose they would police cigarette smoking.

Yes , if people are knowingly subjecting children to poisonus smoke that must constitute abuse. And if you've seen what smoke can do to an asthmatic that must be actual bodily harm.

It's not a good idea, but it's not abuse since it's not intended directly towards the child.
