You need to look at the back of your soundcard on your computer. It'll most likely have a mini-jack. It might even have an optical-out (toslink).
Just get the correct cable and connect it to the receiver in your stereo system.

well the easy way would be to see if your stereo has the "gaming option" where it has the red/white/yellow plus in the front. get a chord that has the red and white plugs (colors dont have to match), Monster makes em, as well as other brands. This will output a 1/8 inch stereo jack which you plug into your headphone port on your computer. If you want to run a 5.1 surround sound setup - different requirements. this would be for 2.1

There are sound output jacks on your sound card.
You may have a simple one built-in to your Mother-Board.
They will be labelled speaker or line out.
You'll have to get an adapter from an electronics store.
This will match your RCA plugs to the mini-jacks.

If your stereo has a red/white/yellow input jack, and your computer has a headphone jack...just get a cable that will connect to them both.
Normally if you have a video camera (some brands) it comes with it. If not then go to Radio Shack, or Wal-Mart or something and buy it.

Most computers have sound cards, with audio jacks for Line Out (what you're looking for), Line In, and Mic In. It'll be on the back of your computer near the bottem, you should see 3.5mm jacks. Anyways, usually the Green jack is the one you want to plug into.
As far as sound systems to plug into your computer, check out NewEgg:
www.newegg.com
Here's an actual speaker system to look at:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16836116153
Most computer speaker systems will have your Sub-Woofer plug directly into the sound card's Line-In, and then the rest of the speakers (satellites) connect with the sub-woofer.
