The books are great. Just saw Order of the Phoenix at the Odeon. Not so great. Strangely enough, I only liked the first two films by Columbus because they were closer to the books and Dumbledore was better. The acting from the older staff was also so good that it made up for the fact that the kids were young and inexperienced. Now the kids are older and there is so much great material to stretch them, but the directors and writers seem to prefer to stick to cliches, an over-reliance on special effects and shallow scripts.

I would definitely recommend you read the books (avoid spoilers because they will ruin your experience), but the last 3 films could take a pass, in my humble opinion.

I just STARTED reading the Harry Potter books and I've already devoured 75 pages in the last 45 minutes. I'm not into fantasy or wizardry but thus far, J.K. Rowling is impressive and definitely not to be missed.

Yes, there's a lot of hype but if what I have read in the first 75+ pages is any indication of anything amazing, well, it's damn well worth it.

Give it a try starting with books first. You may be pleasantly surprised as I was.

No, and I'm not even sure you're in a minority. After all, there are over 7 billion people in the world - surely 3.5 billion of us haven't watched or read, have we? Now THAT would be crazy.

And hey, it happens. Are you a Stephenie Meyer fan or did you like Series of Unfortunate Events? I know they aren't as big, but they have a following, as well.

And I'm older - was when I picked up the first one. Just something about the boy with the lightning scar on his forehead, his rough beginnings, his friends, that I really enjoy.

I watch the movies when they make it to network (free) TV. I haven't read any of the books, but I plan to someday.

The problem is, there are so many books that seem like they are probably more interesting! Maybe I'll read them when they become free - like so many other books on the web.

No U r not alone.

However, I would strongly recommend that you read
Voldermort's rise (last part of Goblet of fire)
& Book 5 Order of the Phoenix
Granted book 5 is the longest however, it is also the most instructive.

actually, i saw the first movie and I liked it, but the second i didn't like at all, and they seem to be getting worse. I have never bothered to read the books.

No, you aren't the only one. But if you enjoy reading and watching movies, I definitely recommend both series, even if they aren't the greatest books/movies ever. :)

I've seen the first Movie and as a result I haven't had a reason to read any of the books. Its horrible recycled stuff.
