I am talking about all genre: Rock, Rap/Crap, Metal, R&B, Pop. It seems every year we are hearing more rubbish music than year before. There is no meaning in modern songs....just anger and sex. Nothing about falling in love and feeling positive. I think music is just having a negative impact on the way people think and behave. I see a direct correlation between Rap and the social ills we currently face in States (violence, rape, racism). Anyone else thinks artists and the music they produce is rubbish nowadays?

a lot of mainstream music (the stuff on the radio) is "rubbish", however even though i'm not really a fan of that stuff i can't really say that it's all crap. I mean what about that song by natasha benningfield (sp?) thats a pretty uplifting song. (a question i just read dealt with her) I listen to mainly underground music like stuff that isn't really known to most people and i must say that music is good. But i know where you're going with this, music in the 90's was great, even the stuff on the radio.

most of the popular stuff is trash, but a lot of the stuff like the fray, and snow patrol, that's clean and has some depth and substance.
i think it's so crazy how people will wail on someone for talking trash about them, but they worship rap stars who talk trash about people like them for a living
i'm glad you realize that this country is becoming the way it is because of the music we listen to. Music dictates a lot about my life, when i listen to a certain type of music i feel a certain way and i behave a certain way. Most people in the US are like that too. Music plays an important role in all of our lives, that's why i listen to Christian in all genres. it has such a happy positive message. The are occasional artists that aren't Christian, and there is always oldies, jazz and country.

I don't think music today has the same effect, significance, and meaning that it used to. However, not all of it is rubbish. There are a few bright spots....mostly thanks to the more experienced bands and artists that are playing. I would not say that RHCP, Velvet Revolver, U2, Foo Fighters, Green Day, Dashboard Confessional, and Pearl Jam are making rubbish.

That's why I mostly listen to jazz music from the 1940's through 1970's. America's innocence has been lost and not replaced by anything of much value.

with a heavy heart, i have to agree with you. 99.99% of the music i listen to is from 80s and early 90s. And the music actually worth listening to that is made these days is drowned out by poseur rock groups (EEMOS) and talentless (c)rappers. it the saddest thing EVER.
