I've enrolled in an acting course and the first class is tomorrow. It's a beginners class which is good because I haven't had any experience acting, and hopefully most of the other people there will be at a similar level as me.

Only problem is, I was never able to take drama at school because it wasn't a subject choice at the school I went to for a good part of my high school career. This makes me think that I may be further behind many of the students who were able to take drama.

I don't want to feel out of my depth. Can anyone offer any tips which might help me out?

Be open about that, but don't use it as an excuse. If you don't understand, say so. But be vulnerable to the process. Do whatever the teacher asks of you and if you're having a hard time, say so. Ask how you can do better when appropriate. Ask for constructive criticism. Hopefully your fellow students will be supportive and give you some tips as well.

Oh, and if you do improv... the general rule is to go with it and never say no. If someone says there's a purple rhino behind you, then there is. Go with it. As soon as you say "I don't see it" It stops the flow of fun and craziness :-) Just let loose and have fun with it!

Good luck!

Hi there! I am an acting teacher myself and have been for years now. The best thing to remember is that we, as humans, are all actors. Acting is remembering emotions that you felt from the past be it yesterday, last week, or years ago....and channeling those emotions to the 'now'.

Just be an open vessel to the teaching that is given you and I'm sure you will do well. As mentioned above, this is for beginners, so don't worry about how far 'back' you are. If anything have fun with it. I find acting brings out our joys, weaknesses, frustrations, laughter, etc...so have a ball! Take care and best of luck!

Just remember to keep an open mind, pay attention to the teacher and when doing scenes with others listen to them very carefully. Participate as much as you can and have fun with it. We were all beginners at one time and there isn't anything wrong with that. Don't let others intimidate you or make you feel small. Ask questions when you don't understand something. Your emotions and feelings and everything else about you are what make you who you are. That's your tool as an actor...your body, mind and personality. I wish you all the best.

ITS A BEGINNERS CLASS! that means it is a class for total beginners..with NO experience...you have nothing to worry about...the teacher has to know that since it is a beginners class, a good number of the students haven't had ANY experience at all!

I know how you feel, I went to my class recently and I felt like I sucked. Even though I took classes before. I just felt like the other actors were better. But, I thought about it, and realized that even though I think I suck I still can get better... If you want to be a actor don't let something like that stop you!!!
GOOD LUCK dude!!!
