I had a top of the range AEG from John Lewis only lasted 3 1/2years their not good anymore as they've joined forces with Hotpoint/Electrolux.
Recommend a miele as good guarantee as well from John Lewis(sometimes their prices believe it or not cheaper than the high st) or try Comet

I have a AEG & I have to say I am really happy with this machine, I would´t suggest a Hoover washing machine, as they are now made by Candy, & have had very bad reports, Zanussi Bosh, they are very good machines, but AEG is the best I can recommend

I usually buy the cheapest one in the shop, they are all good when they are new, and dont be tempted by the insurance that they sell, save the money that it would have cost you for a more expensive model + the insurance, and if it breaks down use this money and just go and get another cheaper one, I just bought a candy off website and it is brilliant- less than £200

Whatever make you decide to go for, make sure you choose the model with the least buttons, switches and dials possible. Never choose one with a digital display or hundreds of programmes. In my experience, these always go wrong and cost a fortune to repair!
Also, unless you do go for a bells and whistles machine, don't bother with the extended guarantee. I've got an Indesit which has gone wrong once in four years (touch wood!) and it cost £60 to have repaired - much cheaper than the cost of an extended guarantee.

I have a Hotpoint Aquarius and would recommend it. I got it from Currys. Got a special deal on buying the washing machine and tumble dryer at the same time.

Maytag's are great. I have had two now in 32 years of housekeeping. Never had the repair person out. may cost a bit more but worth it in the long run. The tubs have lifetime warranty.

Zanussi
we have had one for 25 years wihout any problems.
Always look for the most basic machine .
The more sophisticated they are there are more things to go wrong.
Keep it simple.
