and i have watched it before but never the end (and btw SAD) but at the end of it it says the guys name 197ish-2003 and i was wondering is it based on a true event?

...that's a new one, on me; I wasn't aware that "Man on Fire" was based on a true incident...

However, I DO know that the version of "Man on Fire", starring Denzel Washington, and directed by Tony Scott, is a remake; the original version of "Man on Fire" was released in 1987, and starred Scott Glenn, in the role of the former CIA agent turned bodyguard, for a little girl.

Ironically, Tony Scott was supposed to direct the original version; another director was favored, because at the time, Tony Scott did not have the seasoned filmmaking repertoire that he now has.

No. Tony Scott was just messing with After Effects throughout all of that movie and Domino and felt like making "cool looking stuff" like his time of death being shown to the audience. It's based on a book, though.

I know kidnapping does take place in that country just like in the movie
