Do you think you bang your toe MORE when it's broken, or you just notice it because it hurts so much more? I'm just curious because it REALLY HURTS!

Yes I have recently broken my toe . The doorway to my kitchen is narrow because of a poorly placed over-sized refrigerator freezer that is huge. There is a spot I always bang the same toe on my right foot , 3 times now I"ve re-broken it and the knuckle or joint if you will is now about a half an inch back from where it once was. So in my case it's been happening more often , luckily I"ve almost lost feeling in the area now : )

Well I can't really help with the "broken" thing. The only thing I have ever broken was my nose and that would have been hard to have kept hitting it on something. I would have tried to do that. Like put my face in the floor and whack it against the bed or something...I think not. Anyways I know that when I hurt my toe. Like when I stub it real bad or I had something land on my toe and cut it open the other day, I always manage to kick things more often. I think they need to make casts made out of steel, that way when you kick something you won't notice it. LOL

I'm really sorry to hear that this has happened to you Lt.Dan, and hope you feel better as soon as possible.
As for your question, I believe it's a combination of both. I think that you hit it more, but you also notice ALL the little normal times as well. With you already in pain you feel them all, and it doesn't help that you can't do much for a broken toe either.

Take care!

I once broke my toe because my youngest son was in front of me and suddenly stopped. It hurt like hell...and yes it did seem that I was always hitting it again on something else. I actually wonder if it was throwing me off just a bit and that with the swelling made me a little more clumsy. But...I'm afraid the worst is yet to come for you Lt. Dan. In a few weeks when it starts healing...it's gonna ITCH SO FREAKING BAD...but it will be INSIDE your toe! You can't itch it and it will drive you insane! I went through these itching spells for the next 6 months! I feel so bad for you. They come on all of a sudden...I don't know how many times I actually had to pull over on the highway to scratch the itch that you can't get relief from! Oh, the torture!!! :'o(

I've had 6 broken toes and 4 broken fingers and I seem to bang them more when broken since it seems I am trying to be more careful with them while they are hurt

It is really both. 1) since you have a broken toe you tend to walk differently and have a tendency to not pick up your foot as high or catch it on a stair. Why? I don't know. 2) yes when you do bump it , it will for obvious reasons draw immediate attention to the injury and thus SEEM like it happens more.
I hope it heals quick as possible for you. You don't deserve the pain.

I've never had a broken toe but I have had an ingrown toenail and I swear everyone just had to stomp on it.I know it wasn't me just noticing it more because even if it wasn't hurting I would notice if people were stepping on all of the time.

I'd kiss it to make it better, but it's your toe...

I've been lucky enough to never experience a broken toe anyways, but I had a broken collar bone and I couldn't even change my shirt! which sucked because the school I went to at the time required these Catholic uniforms.

I think the evil toe spirits in your toe are making it bump into things more. Get a toe excorsist.

You notice it more because it hurts, but don't say I haven't toed you so. You need to toe the line and fly straight, before that third double martini. How did you break your toe? Is that a common injury among language teachers? Were you trying to kick one of your students into high gear?
