Because Yahoo! Answers would be a cold and lonely corner of the Web if this question (or similar) didn't come up at least once a week.

Actually having a lefty catcher playing would ruin it.

The last lefty catcher I remember was Jamie Quirk the long time Royals catcher. He played a season in New York and Oakland I think

Most strong throwing players are encouraged to play 1st base or right field because these positions the players are normally already in a position to throw home, 2nd base or 3rd base...because the majority of batters are right handed a left handed catcher would be blocked from making throws to 2nd where the majority of base stealing attempts are made..

Mostly because most batters are right-handed, and that would make it tougher to throw out baserunners. The right-handed batters would get in the way more often.

However, there's no rule against it or anything. If you had a lefthanded catcher who was good enough, he might be able to make it work.

Because the flow of the game is counter clock wise and it's harder for catchers to make certain plays if they are left handed.

Because in order to throw down to third base you'd have to turn your entire body, making it really hard to throw someone out.
