Siphoning any liquid is tricky. You might want to start with water in order to learn the tricks. I suggest a clear plastic tube so you can see the liquid before it hits your mouth. Siphoning has got to be done downhill, that is from a higher to a lower level. Gravity will make the liquid go to the lower level if there is no air in the tube to interfere with flow. The greater the distance between the two levels the faster the flow. Getting gas out of modern autos is almost impossible since the spout for gas going in usually have obstructions for one reason or another. Let's suppose you have a a water bucket sitting on a table. You put the hose into the water, keep it down low so that it doesn't suck air. Suck on the tube or use a device designed for the purpose. Once you have liquid falling below the level of the table you can direct the flow into a lower bucket on the floor. It will flow easily until the top hose runs out of liquid and starts sucking air. Once you see how it works you will have a better chance of success. Do not take any chances with gasoline or other fuels, chemicals etc. You can be easily poisoned if you swallow them. As another person said, there are tools for doing this available for little cost at auto parts stores. Knowing how to siphon comes in handy though if you do much mechanic or farm work.

You mean SIPHON gas---go to a parts store and buy a fuel transfer hose that has a little bellows on it for siphoning along with a check valve on it....read and follow the instructions for it---you simply put the long end of the hose in the gas tank of the vehicle you want to get gas from, pump the bellows until the gas starts flowing and direct the other end of the hose into a gas can or another vehicle's fuel tank.
