The bank can only file a defence on a weekday. However, be prepared that they will more than likely do this, they almost always file one or two days before the deadline, so will probably file on thursday or friday.

Although its a pain if they do file a defence, as it drags your claim out longer, don't worry about it if they do, you still have an excellent chance of winning your claim. Even though the banks have filed a defence, its more than likely than they will still settle with you before the hearing date. Usually they start to settle once you have your court date through.

Banks only process items on working days, this means Monday thru Friday. Your claim will not be processed until the Federal Reserve opens Monday morning because that is when the operations department at a bank works (the only bank employees who work on weekends are customer service and they have to transfer all their work and claims to operations to have them processed).

Good Luck...I filed a claim against my bank for $162 in charges (they paid in order of dollar amount instead of the order items came in and that caused many overdrafts, where if they had done it the way it came in it would have caused one). I got none back...

As a rule the courts are not open on weekends. That means no one can file anything.

To whoever mentioned the Federal Reserve: You are assuming the question applies to the US. Based on similar questions, I believe it applies to the UK.
