That all depends. Do you already have pets? Have you had pets before? What kind of knowledge do you have on pets? Is your living space large or small? Will the pet be living inside or outside?
Make a list of the kinds of pets that interest you. Read up on the cost, raising, and caring for each one. As you learn about the pros and cons of each animal, you can eliminate the ones from the list that may not work out with your finances or abilities to care for them.
It's possible that all the animals may be crossed off. That's not a bad thing. It simply gives you an honest answer. Best you find this out before you get that pet. Then you can work on the things necessary to make having a pet possible for you.
Good luck.

I've always been a dog person, but can't get one since I'm in college. If you can get a dog, for sure get one.
If you can't, rodents are fun, but I'm really sensitive to smells, and it's very, very hard to manage it to the point where people don't notice that you have rodents in your house. If you do want a rodent, Degus are awesome. Cheaper than a chinchilla, but with just as great of a personality.
I recently got a parakeet myself, because I was looking for something apartment-friendly. I couldn't be happier. He's VERY easy to take care of--if I want to go away for a few days I just make sure he has enough food and water, and open the window or turn the tv on so I know he'll be entertained. He was easy to finger train--he wasn't at all when I got him a month ago. He doesn't talk yet, but he's still just a baby. As long as you get a male and have only one bird, they are supposed to eventually talk. Parakeets are cheap too, at around $20, and $15 for a basic cage, $45 for a roomy one. Food is about $7 for a bag that will last 2-3 months. It's cute too how he'll "sing" along with songs.

It really does depend on how much time, effort and money you're prepared to put into your new companion.
Dogs are great, I wouldn't be without mine, but I work from home and can afford vet bills etc. It wouldn't be fair to own a dog that would be shut indoors all day. This of course depends on where in the world you live, in Britain we tend not to leave dogs outside in kennels etc, we like them in the house with us unless they're guard dogs. But I know other countries regard dogs differently and keep them outside even if they're pets. They still need company, training and exercise and you need to consider if you have this amount of time to spend on an animal.
Cats are good too, much more independent. I have 4 and they can pretty much take care of themselves during the day but still love a cuddle in the evening when we settle down in front of the idiot box.
They're less time consuming but can be expensive with vet bills etc.
If you live in the countryside (like I do), they're brilliant for keeping the wild rodent population down.
If you don't have much time or money, I'd recommend rats. They make wonderful pets, they're very intelligent and surprisingly sociable, they'll sit on your shoulder for hours if trained to. I've had lots of fancy rats over the years and they really are fab pets despite the bad press they get.
You need two though, they are social animals and get very lonely if kept alone.
Plus the added bonus, if a relative you don't particularly like comes visiting, you can always invite them to meet your brand new pet ;o)
Good luck.

I like dogs best because they live pretty long lives and become a part of the family. Most other pets have to be caged or are really independent, but I kinda like having my pet depend on me.

HERMIT CRABS:
How much do you have to pay for one hermit crab and all the other stuff that you have to get for them?
$2 to $20. depends where you get it.and what supplies you need.
What does "molting" mean?
means the changing of the shell. Hermit crabs need extra shells of different sizes by their growth. If they do not have extra shellS, they will die.
What are all the supplies that you have to have?
Tank, lots of extra shells, sand for bedding, rocks, logs for climbing, food and water bowls, pellet food, opitional a sponge soaked in water (that's how mine dranked it's water).
How long do they live for?
Hermit Crabs can live to be over 15 years with right caring.
Do they pinch you if you hold them?
Sometimes. if it's being annoyed, etc. If one pinches you, do NOT do anything because it will pinch harder and will not let go,just take deep breaths and it will let go.
Can you hold a hermit crab and let him walk on your hand?
Yes.
What are the advantages about them?
it's fun picking out shells, you can paint them and see them come out of their shell they're weird
What kind of veggies and fruits can they eat?
i gave mine small bits of lettuce, grapes. thery are food you can buy
evry when do you clean its tank?
once twice a week is fine
how many would be good to buy?
two (or if each of your kid wants a hermit crab)
do they change?
They change their shells and you'll need a BIGGER than the previous shell and they go in their new home
how do they eat?
they eat with a tiny mouth and drink water i had a wet sponge
ALSO: have bigger shells different sizes so when they need to move out they have choices.

Rabbits are very nice pets! I'd go with a mini rex! They're awesome! They have the softest fur out of all the rabbits!

It depends what kind of person you are. Any pet could make a great family member, but you have to match your pet and pet personality to yours. For me I enjoy quiet time and don't spend too much time at home. Even though tI know dogs make great companions, I have my kitty. From my experience you have to look further than just a kind of pet. I have 2 cats, mine and my brothers. My brother's is a tabby cat and so active. Tabby's are great for kids are they are friendly, active and social. My cat is a tuxedo, great personality and quiet. My tuxedo is perfect for me
