Okay so I have everything be cause I delivered a baby last year (37 weeks along) who did not make it now I'm expecting another soon and don't really need anything. We are asking people to buy books, baby toys bottles, and clothes 3-6 months not newborn size! Diapers get tricky because in the 1st 3 months they change sizes so much. Then mom ends up with 3 cases of diapers she can't use cause they don't fit baby any more it's just a waste.

most people do not think about the amount of diapers , wipes, etc. that they will go thru. i always buy a couple of packs of diapers or wipes. they may not think it's much at first but everyone i've done it for has thanked me later because my extra packs came in handy for the middle of the night or when they were low on cash. also bath soaps and shampoos. buy a medium sized basket and fill it with anything and everything. these type of things can come in handy down the road. or if they are the type that you think might not appreciate, then just get them a gift card and let them spend it in a way that will make them happy so therefore they will be thankful for your gift.

Give a gift card. Or, better yet, get some spa stuff for Mommy! Go buy a new luandry basket and fill it with a new pair of silky p.j.s for Mom and some lotions and such. Some personal things for her to feel like she is pampering herself! I would have loved if someone had done that for me at my shower! Good luck!

My favorite gift was a blanket, it was plastic, not really.
It was washable, it had a mirror, an squeak toy, a place for a picture(of her, or her parents), it had places to attack toys
This was a great gift
I gave it to a friend, who does home day care. She still have it. She loves it. When she have a small baby, nobody, but the baby, is allow one the blanket
It's different, and useful
I guess, it's a play blanket

Open a savings account with $5 or $10 in the mother-to-be name and tell her to add the child's once it is born. Open it with the amount you had planned to spend on a gift. This will realy impress people at the shower too and they do not need to know the amount in the savings account. Good luck!

Buy a gift for the mom, something that pampers her (i.e. a gift certificate for a pregnancy massage, etc). I know I loved getting gifts like that at my baby shower.

How about something custom-made ... like:
perhaps some onezies that you can get airbrushed with the parents' favorite logo, animal, etc on it... those are fairly cheap to get done and the parents will love it because it represents what they like!
Example: My cousin and his g/f were having their first baby, and they're both skater kids, so friends of theirs got them a bunch of onezies with stuff like Billabong, "Skateboarding is not a Crime" on it, or pictures of their favorite characters from South Park riding skate boards and turtles (b/c turtles are his g/f's favorite animal) riding skate boards... it was cool!
Good luck, I hope you come up with something!

I thought I had everything until I got a baby hamper for his laundry. That is my favorit gift so far. Also try Lilypadz breast pads. I love them! I got them for myself. I also got books. You can get what to expect the first year and what to expect the toddler years.

How about some nice aromatherapy products for the mom. She could probably be doing with some pampering. Remember to check, what ever products you buy are suitable for a pregnant woman or even for some one who is post natal.
She'll thank you for them.
