I just watched a dvd of the movie Swimming Upstream and I am fascinated with the rusty things on the beach, I assume they are remains of WWII ships. Can anyone tell me exactly where they are and where I could find some more photos of them.

Twelve old government ships made up a diving place on Morton Island - a short boat ride from Brisbane - it's great, I've been there.

Search for Tangalooma Ship wrecks - Moreton island.

Here's one site http://www.dolphinwild.com.au/location.php

I hope this helps.
(Edit: I just realised the movie was made 2003 but is set in the 1950's. I doubt any wrecks on beaches, in the film were real wrecks, just movie props. Any wrecks that were around on beaches in the 1950's would be long gone. There are still sunken wrecks off shore.)

The only wreck I know of is the "Cherry Venture".
On July 6th, 1973, the Cherry Venture was driven aground in a wild storm at Double Island Point on Noosa's North Shore. The 1600 ton Singapore owned cargo ship, manned by 19 Malaysian, Filipino and Chinese crewmen with an Indonesian captain, was bound for Brisbane from New Zealand when it was caught in what was described as the worst storm in living memory.

Contractors will begin site preparations on Monday (February 5) ahead of removing the last remains of the Cherry Venture hulk from the Cooloola Coast north of Noosa.

There is one ship on a beach north of Caloundra, which is not very close to Brisbane. It was called the "Dickie" and is on Dickie Beach. Search on that. There can't be much left of it now. It was not a WWII ship but went aground long before that.

i'm sure they were movie props as i don't know of any wrecks on the beach now except the Cherry Venture north of Noosa. The wrecks at Moreton Island were deliberately sunk to make an artificial reef.
the indicator loops web site below has some excellent pics of old wrecks including WWII
