If you mean new, wannabe, bikers with 50 miles under their belt & have harley everything: mugs, shot glasses, hats, belts, ear rings, shades, candles, air fresheners, toilet paper, tampons, ect., I would have to agree they are posers.

Of course, you have many of the newbie/rubie "bikers" that truely don't have a clue. They don't realise that there are other "real" bikes (bikes with as rich a history) as the H-D, because all they know about bikes they learned from reading Harley magazines, and all the corporate marketing hype. HD has done a fine job of brainwashing a bunch of folks with it's marketing! They have been intent on re-writing motorcycle history, but the real riders realise that Triumphs and Indians are cool too.
You make a good point too, since the beginning of time, many Harley riders have had an inferiority complex. They are very brand loyal, and it hurts when you are like that and keep getting stomped by the competition! First, it was because the Indian bikes kept beating them on the race track, then it was because of the Triumphs. They were all fiercely competitive.
The Fonzie thing is more historically correct with him riding the Triumph. James Dean rode a Triumph T110. Evil Knievel said the Triumph was his favorite stunt bike. Steve McQueen first rode an Indian, and then swore by Triumphs, as he rode in "The Great Escape". Marlon Brando rode a Triumph in real life and in "The Wild One". Ann Margaret also rode a Triumph. You can't get much cooler than that.....

well you have posers, yuppies, girls, metros, mods, rice rockets, weekend warriors and so on..........The important think to remember here is if you enjoy riding then do it. ive been riding 20yrs and on many various different types of motorcycles so if owning a "harley" classifies you as a "REAL RIDER" then i guess i was real at one time and some how became a sell out. riding is a lifestyle no matter what you ride or when you or how you ride. Just enjoy this great invention

Posers, wanna be's....living the life, priority is the bike stays good to go whether the rent gets paid or not. Been there, the possibly unconcious need to feel supeior to those I hadn't met and didn't know. Surely they weren't as passionate as my people and I were about the life. When I was younger I singled out the freeway flyers, Goldwing and other touring bikes when most likely a good percentage tacked on more miles then I did.
In 34 years of riding I've put my time in with the range of situations. Having nothing but a bike to take me to work and back rain or shine, going over passes in the snow, broke down on the side of the road, gone down in gravel, oil slicks, too drunk to hold the bike up and me and the bike body slamming a van at about 55 mph.
I've earned the right to be a fair weather biker. But my opinion now, in my advancing years is, we're all cut from the same material just different patterns. If the bike is at least one of your passions that's the common thread. Make, model, street, dirt it's the love and anticipation of being on that bike that states who you are as far as being a "real biker" at least to me.
If "poser" refers to those who swing there leg over a V Twin or crouch rocket and become instant one percenters, ain't no thing either. Your persona your choice. No need to forwarn, step on the wrong toes and bad things can happen.
As for me I'm a "just what I wanna be". The bike is still my number one passion, shared with sex. But now weekends are set aside for boating, camping, grandkids and the like as well.

I think the majority of riders accept other riders no matter what the bike. It's pretty much like a fraternity. If you ride, you're alright. It takes balls to know you're at the mercy of the four wheel boxes but still ride.
I own a 05 busa (engine built for speed) and an 06 Vulcan classic 1600. I love the cruiser ride but also love the speed.
Have Fun

to baron von doofus....Fonzie rode a honda not a harley and as a harley owner I think the exitement and newness of owning a new bike goes to their heads at times. however I would rather ride next to a poser with harley undies than next to a know it all kid on a high preformance bike.......safe riding all
