Much of a hype and I do not think he can make a difference in US. Even Pele's presence did not change the attitude towards Soccer game in US.
He is as good as his set plays and only the stats show he is
great around only 15-20% of set plays in his career. There are
many better players who can bend the ball and in set plays, but this has been a big time hype and will should fail......
Media is pushing hard and the hype is already built.....
If you ask me, will I go to watch him play....I say NO.

Yes I believe he is, especially in MLS. Pele was great to get football started in the U.S. now Becks is here. He will bring in fans, people will follow him in the newspapers, yes he will help. His bending shots will be respected and his long shots will help. Beckham has never been much of a threat in keeping the ball on his foot into the box, he is an outside player on the right side of the pitch. He will make a mark!
However, NEVER will soccer be anything but a summer sport in the U.S. because of college football and NFL. We are very provincial and truly like our head-banging in your face football. Since l994 I have been a great soccer fan, but still avidly look forward to fall and American Football.

I think he will have a great time in the MLS because the quality of defenders is unimpressive. As long as he scores and wins frequently, he will get lots of exposure on ESPN. The only potential hazard for him is that some teams play on artificial turf, which won't do his 34-year-old legs any favors. The LA Galaxy will do well to keep a lid on his playing time on such occasions.

he's about as useful to the world as a whole as trying to put the pin back in a grenade, but in the 21st century we live in celebrity guys who follow fashion and go shopping mean more bucks than the talented but low profile ones
