BANNING ANY BOOK IS A RIDICULOUS IDEA regardless of the writer's political or religious inclination (like Shalman Rushdie) or the book's storyline like Harry Potter's. It would take more than reading a book to turn a person into a terrorist, a criminal or an atheist.

Banning Harry Potter is ridiculous to say the least; it is simply wrong to say the most. The reasons that I have heard and read for banning this borderline classic series are outrageous. The incantations are, for the greater part, simple Latin statements or plays on the "magic words" used since I was a very young person. Reading this story has more danger of teaching young people very positive attitudes of friendship and leadership than it has of teaching them to become witches, wizards, or Satanists. This series can claim that it has been more contested than even Huckleberry Finn has in its short life.

Harry Potter is FICTION. If people are stupid enough to try witchcraft "because Harry does it," they need help. It's just a series of books. There are much worse (thematically speaking) books than Harry Potter out there, and I haven't noticed anyone wanting them banned.

WHAT? Banning Harry Potter would be like banning Hope, or Flowers, or a Sunny Day!

i think that its both ridiculous and stupid idea banning a book just because of the fact it promotes new ideas like the harry potter series. who ever wants to ban any book because of what ever new kind of though should be shown the error of their ways or thrown in jail for living in the past.

It's just a piece of fiction, a fairytale. The people who try to suppress it only bring more attention to it. It certainly is a parent's right to monitor what their children see, but I personally don't see any harm in Harry Potter, which is no worse than The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, Superman, The Wizard of Oz, etc.

yes, it is completely ridiculous. first of all... it is just fiction!! by no means should anyone believe it to be true, or worship it or anything... lol. and secondly, if the people who want to ban it are wanting to do it for religious reasons, that is also ridiculous. there are even similarities... dumbledore is kind of a christ-figure in the book (except he's dead now...) and harry and ron and hermione are kinda like disciples i guess... anyway. totally ridiculous idea!!

I think you'd be better off asking about Harry Potter as well as all the other books being banned.
Some people fear for their own interests, and they need not have children reading large books, ebing educated in literacy quickly, nor being given fine examples of how government can muck things up so badly.

Banning any book is a ridiculous idea. No one should have the right to deny anyone other than themselves or their own children from reading any book.
