I have a new computer specs are:
2.4 e660 conroe P Processor
2GB of RAM
400GB SATA HDD
200GB IDE HDD
128 MB nVidia gfx card
4 fans inc processor and power supply
XP Professional

At first i thought maybe the processor was over-heating but the tempature doesn't go above 48 celcius and it can work upto i believe 90 or something like that.

Then i looked at all the connectors to see if there all plugged in on the motherboard and they are.

Then i looked at the graphics and that stays at 52 celcius and it has it's own heat sync and fan.

Now im stompt for ideas! I previously had XP Pro 64bit instaleld and it also crashed with that as well.

Any ideas?

Thanks inadvance,

James :)

Edit: I've updated ALL devices before including motherboard except the BIOS. As i don't have a floppy drive i don't want to flash it just yet.

I've already been in MSCONFIG and stopped most programs starting (mainly because they annoy me) but to no avail.

Thanks for the speedy responses. I'll look over them all again :D

Hi. I would run it in safe mode for a while and see if it still locks up. If not then you might try 'msconfig' to stop programs from loading one at a time. Takes some detective work. (This assumes you are not having a hardware error of course.)

Check your RAM to make sure it isn't messsed up. Take it out and put it back on. Also see of you can borrow any compatible ones to try it on your computer. Also check your Power Supply If you have a 400w or 450 you should think about upgrading to a 500w.

download a free copy of linux "knoppix" it will boot from the CD and not install on your HD. If it runs and is able to see all you hardware and such, it is probably a windows file that is corrupt. Knoppix has many "fixit" utilities in it to try. Or you can try the "Ultimate Boot CD". (no HD install but boots from CD) It is similar and easier to understand. (if course, I'm assuming you can get a friedn to soenload it for you if your PC is freezing.

Try getting all the updated device drivers for your video card, motherboard, and any other devices you have installed.

Then make sure you have all the windows components updated by using the Windows update function on your start menu.

Then repost if you still have issues.
