I have a friend that insists that it is doofus. I feel that it is dufus. They both mean the same thing, and they both have been published in various ways, but I would like some honest answers from the general public. What to you think?

dufus or doofus well spellcheck doesn't like either but my own personal opinion is doofus. That is how i would spell it.

It is definitely doofus, just like it is not duf, but doof, when say "Ya doof.".
But yes, through ignorance and not having grown up in those days, yup, it would and could be corrupted into another form. So guess what you have one form belonging to one generation and another to another. Tough titty, or is it tiddy like in tidley or tiddley winks or wings.
