I know.

He has made such stupid quotes over the past few years.

He wins the ''Just Shut Up'' award for the week.

I mean if Joe Torre treated blacks diffrently dont you think the black/hispanic players would have made some statement about it?

Besides if Joe Torre treated blacks diffrently he would have never named Derek Jeter captain.

Not only is Gary Sheffield a major jerk, he is most clearly ignorant. At worst, he is proving to be a racist. He makes charges against people he can't intellectually substantuate. He is clearly a poster child for someone playing the race card where it has no business being played. That takes away from those who do are legitimately suffering from real racism.

Personally if I were Joe Torre, I would most definately be exploring a serious defamation and slander suit against this clown.

He is a major jerk. He has been that way from when the Brewers had him at the start of his career. He will burn his bridges in Detroit before he is done. Nothing has ever been his fault. He looked bad at first base for the Yankees last year also.

YES - Sheff is a jerk (don't worry there are plenty of jerks to go around and they span all races and nationalities).

Who really knows what happens in a clubhouse. We also have to be honest and say that we don't really know if Torre treats white players differently from minority players. What I can tell you, based on my experience, is that you treat cancer different than a headache.

Shefield, despite the great career he's putting together, is probably one of the worst, attitude wise, players in major league history. The good thing about Shefield is that he's not someone that has off the field issues, but he's a nuisuance when he opens his mouth. But, I have to give him credit, he's a good player. Potential Hall of Famer.

He was my favorite player on the yankees. But i lost all respect for him when he let his opinions run wild, and accused Joe Torre for it seems like everything. No doubt he is a great player, but he is probably the biggest jerk in baseball.

Why is it when a black ballplayer says anything about race he's a racist but a white player is just telling it like it is? Gary Sheffield hasn't said anything to make me think he's a jerk. White guys seem to be waiting for race to come up from a black guy so they can pound their chests and cry, "Racist!" It's not like the first white player got into the game in 1947, after all. If it's an issue with black players it's an issue. I know Sheffeild should take his money and shut up so that white people are not annoyed but if he doesn't want to do that, so what? The only outspoken racist who is black is Barry Bonds.

I don't think he's a jerk. I do think that he is not very intelligent and is totally annoying. I don't know where he gets the uninformed and ignorant ideas that he spews on and on about.

I'm a Tigers fan, so I might be biased, but I don't think he's a jerk, he's just honest. I don't know if he's mad at the Yankees for letting him go, cause he wanted to come to Detroit.

As for what he says, the whole issue about latin american players being easier to control caused quite a stir.......until latin american players like Carlos Guillen came out and said he was pretty much right.

Now for the Yankee thing, it's caused a bit of a story, but to be honest, I haven't heard the usual sports personalities criticize him for being out of line. True, it did sound like he was calling Torre a racist in a backdoor way, but why would anyone make this kind of stuff up? For attention he already has for being a slugger?
